Default Cheeseheads Rule

Word from Green Bay is that the Packers are sending cheese baskets to all the Arizona Cardinal players. Also, Poole, the player who made the critical catch leading to the Cardinal victory over the Vikings, has been invited to the Packer's game and will receive a key to the city of Green Bay.

Watch out Sea-Chickadee's, you're gona get plucked!

PACKERS RULE!

Two of my favorite teams Seattle and Green Bay, too bad it is not the finals.
I think Farve is too motivated not to win.
Seattle has gone as far as they are going to too bad it cant be more cinderella for them.

Favre will get picked twice and sacked at least 3 times. Hawks by 8-1/2. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

What the heck is a "Packer" anyway? And whatever they are, are they really green and yellow?

ORS,

I'm not even gonna touch that one  Whatever a packer is, it can't be good cause they're from Green Bay. I only know one team that looks good in Yellow and Green!! Favre can't even spell his own name to match the pronunciation, how is he gonna lead a team to a Super Bowl Championship? All I gotta say is that Green Bay should be lucky that the Bears didn't make it in. It would have been all over but the crying then!!

Yipe!   Ummm...should have thought that post through a little more before I asked the question...

I guess their name indicates what they will be doing after Sunday - packing it in for the season...uh, yeah, that's what I meant.

Jokester and ORS - yeah, go ahead and humor yourselves...that's common with losers who see defeat and shame closing in on them.

While your amatuer attempts at humor may temporarily dull the pain somewhat for now, it'll be a different matter tomorrow when you watch the Packers spank the Seachickens.

ORS, I really hope you didn't waste money betting on the birdies in this one.

Go Packers.

Okay, quit your whinning....here's the history leason for the day - In the Green Bay Press-Gazette on August 29, 1919, two weeks before the team's first organized game, George Calhoun first publicly identified the team as the "Indian Packers."

Curly Lambeau received $500 from his employer, the Indian Packing Co., for uniforms and equipment, and for use of the Company's lot for practice. In exchange, Lambeau and Calhoun agreed to call the team the "Packers." Early fans, many of whom were working-class citizens, immediately embraced the name, widely publicized by Calhoun.

Calhoun also called them simply "Indians" briefly in 1919, but that moniker seemed to fold with the company, soon purchased - along with the team - by Acme Packing Co. In 1921, the team's first season in what is now the NFL, its owners had "Acme Packers" put on the jersey, setting the name in stone.

While "Packers" hase served as the primary nickname since the team's embryonic stages, fans and sportswriters also have called them the Big Bay Blues, or the Bays. Lambeau in 1922 applied with the name "Blues" but public opinion quickly vetoed him [the Packers is a publicly owned team].

A packer is someone who works at a packing house, an estaablishment fpr slaughtering, processing and packing livestock into meat, meat products and byproducts. "Green Bay Packers" is the longesst standing team name in NFL history.

So there you have it guys,....make fun of the name if you wish, but no denying that this is a team that symbolizes the fundamental heritage of this great country - rooted in the blue collar tradition, publicly owned in a relatively small [by NFL standards] community. I guess that some of these same attributes were what attracted me to the Steelers back in the mid-70's when I lived in Pennsylvania [of course it didn't hurt one bit considering the exploits of the great team they had then, lead by Terry Bradshaw and other greats ].

"$5 BET"....Last of the "Big Spenders"! Gotta love your confidence.

Regardless of who wins today, I hope that it is a great game, and not one-sided. Even though the Packers are favored on home-ground, Mike has a knack for doing well in the under-dog role. Party on guys.

It was a close game, so just small portions, please.

So much for my $5.

Good game for both teams! Probably the best game of the playoffs.

Yeah Krue....you had me worried. That and ORS's $5 bet really had me concerned.

This was a great game - both teams showed alot of class and talent.

I don't know if the Packers will go all the way, but it'd sure be nice if the two teams in the Super Bowl put on a similar performance.

As far as my $5 goes, well...I'll have to post something on the Classifieds to cover it.

Got a kick out of the comment made by Seattle player over the coin toss for the overtime possession.
