Default Below Macks

Haven't been down low all year yet.I am assuming the crowds for the most part are above Macks at this point. Planning a little trip and just want to get away from the masses of people. Fishing down there should be just fine. Any one been below Macks lately?

There have been very few people fishing hard much less fishing below pine tree lately. Get there early and you should have your pick of the runs. Worked down there thursday and only saw maybe a dozen people all day.

I did pretty well down there last weekend. Nothing spectacular like earlier in the year but its still fishing good. Fish were still looking up and I even managed to find one on a skater still

I'm heading to Trout Creek to Maupin on Friday. Looks like I need to do some skating! Nice.

Summers are grabby. Made my first trip out to the EFL on Thursday and rose a fish in 46 deg water. Never to late to make it happen.

Fishing is still very good. Should have little competition.

Great report! I have a few soldiers on leave, and I was thinking of taking them over. If anyone wants to help us out, it would be appreciated. I have minimal fly gear for them to use.

The White River blew out friday midday and it was still bad as of sunday, We hit fish below Macks friday until the water turned milky white in the evening and it just turned off the fishing. Not a lot of folks down there.

That is a variation of Bill Bakke's Dragonfly.

Don Nelson at River City Fly Shop ties them like that. He's got a lot of variations of the pattern for sale.

Wing and tail are stiff hair (deer or elk).

Body is poly yarn or some other non-absorbent yarn or dubbing. This example has palmered hackle on the body (optional).

Foam back and lip.

I use the pattern and like it on the D. Works well either skated of slightly sub-surface.

The White was a factor when we showed up Sunday. Poor vis to be sure. Had everything below Macks to ourselves, we were the only sled fishing, saw a couple of floaters that was it. Water cleared and was fishing great by the time we left yesterday. We actually got fish when the vis was at it's worst....maybe a foot or two at the most. Obviously got better as conditions cleared.By the time we left it was clear and there were some beautiful wild fish caught. Not a numbers game but some real nice larger wild fish....and the key, no one around.
