Geo-caching, anyone?
Any Geocachers out there? I'd love to learn more about it. Found my first cache today.
Just curious if anyone else is into it.

Re: Geo-caching, anyone?
Haven't done geo-caching, but have done "letterboxing" which is similar but doesn't use GPS. It's a great family activity, and fun for kids.

Re: Geo-caching, anyone?
It is a lot of fun.
I could have sworen that we discussed this before... I searched and searched the archives and couldn't find it though...
I believe that Geocaching by GPS got its start here in Oregon!
We have been giong after various caches for several years now. At first there were only a couple dozen in the area. Now.... they are everywhere. I usually leave a new lure in the cache. It is really amazing just how many there are all around. Drove past dozens without even trying. It would be fun to make some that were eaiest to access by boat.

Re: Geo-caching, anyone?
Was working on the Southern Oregon Coast doing archaeology this summer when we were setting up our grid for excavating. As we were scouting out likely places, I noticed something odd in the rocks (this was a quarry site--oldest on the entire PNW coast, so I was checking out formations) when I noticed a military ammo box stashed in the rocks. Hmmmm thought I. Looters? I looked and discovered a cool geo-caching "prize box".
I'd like to try it sometime, however I wish this particular box was in a less significant place on the landscape--also a VERY dangerous site, as it is highly eroded. Guess it's all part of the fun though. Been to far worse places elk and deer hunting!
