Dear Community,
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and applaud a group of people in pour State who do tremendous work.
Our State's foster parents and in relation, the programs and facilities that care for our States' wards of the Court.
Throughout the year, in Salem (and I am sure in other cities too) our foster parents use fundraisers to gather money to get presents for birthdays, Christmas, and other cultural celebrations. We at DHS assemble gift baskets, which are auctioned off. There is a parking lot at our office across from the fair grounds in Salem, which is used during the fair to raise money. All of this goes out to volunteers who buy toys, probably about 4000 or so  , and bring them to the United Methodist Church in Salem. Then all of us workers go in and "shop" for our kids.
This year I also bought my own Christmas cards and sent them to the kids. I started this while I was working for OYA and saw the smiles from the kids who got mail on their birthdays and Christmas. Very fulfilling.
I also bought special Santa wrapping and spent two of my evenings wrapping about 60 or so presents.
Yesterday, I delivered to the Salem, Cornelius, and Portland area.
Today, it will be Eugene, Corvallis, and back to finish Salem.
If anyone wants to foster a child or knows of a home, contact me.
We have 1100 or so children in care in Salem alone.
Merry Christmas...
This Santa's helper has got to roll with his jacked-up Toyota and a back seat full of presents.
