What's on the Menu??
I think the food we eat at Christmas is right up there with family. Oh yeah, the presents are nice too, but that food is the best. Our menu:
Christmas Eve:
A good Americanized Scandinavian food fest:
Ham and turkey sandwiches with 3 kinds of bread, 3 kinds of cheese, a couple different mustards, red onion, lettuce, mayo, pickles and stuff, green salad, clam chowder, smoked salmon, olives, mulled cider, home-made eggnog and DESSERT!!
Christmas Morning:
Eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, toast, jam, OJ and coffee.
Christmas lunch:
Leftovers when we wake up from naps.
Christmas Dinner:
Prime rib, twice-baked potatoes, asparagus, rolls, good wine, and sparkling cider (the grandboys call it sparkling spider).
Then we don't eat for a few days to make up for it.
May you have the family you want, the gifts you desire, the peace you deserve. Merry Christmas.

Re: What's on the Menu??
Sounds good.
All I know is that it's honey baked ham on Christmas eve and prime rib on Christmas day. Lots of other stuff too, but those are the food highlights for me.
I'll probably eat til I get

Re: What's on the Menu??
As soon as I posted that, I suddenly got a sad feeling in my gut that maybe someone reading this won't be able to have such a nice dinner on Christmas.
If there is anyone here that needs some help with some groceries, feel free to pm me and I'll try to help you out. This will be between us.

Re: What's on the Menu??
That's why we have a food and toy drive at work. I can eat my meals and feel okay about it.
Its hard to think about those without family to celebrate with, food to eat and gifts to exchange. I try to do as much as I can for the rest of the year so I don't have to feel as guilty about the blessings I have.

I hear ya. Not trying to bring anyone down. I will enjoy my holiday meals and time with family as well. Just got one of those feelings that someone reading this may need some help.

Yeeehhhh, you eat body filters??? That is the one thing I never got behind. I don't eat filters. It's the "left behind" stuff that gives me the creeps (darn biology classes anyway).

Re: What's on the Menu??
periwinkle, once baked potatos are so-so but after you slice off the top third of the baked potato, scoop the tater-gutz out, mix them with butter, sour cream, crumbled bacon, green onion, and shredded cheese, then stuff it back in the shells and bake again until the cheese melts? Then you have an excellent twice-baked potato.

Re: What's on the Menu??
Christmas Eve is always Bavarian: Otto's Bockwurst, Schnitzel, Potatoes, Cabbage, BEER (sparkling cider for the kinder)
Christmas is TURKEY I hope ... it's out my hands this year.
Happy Holidays everyone!

Re: What's on the Menu??
Christmas Eve will be McDonald's or Burger King, as we will likely be on the road for dinner. Once at our final destination, I will be indulging in 'spiced' eggnogg.
Depending on how long the kids sleep (6 and 8) Christmas morning will likely start around 400am.
After heavey doses of strong coffee, we usually eat a large breakfast including homemade bacon, duck eggs, fried potatoes and homemade coffe cake.
Long around 1000am, Mamosa's start flowing (OJ and Champagne) and snacks roll out until the Marinated and rubbed Prime Rib comes off the grill.

Blacktail,
Nice gesture buddy. It's a time for giving. I too would like to extend the offer to help out with groceries for the holidays. You can PM me also if I can help out.
Happy holidays!
