5th Street Public Market

U of O campus

McKenzie River

Willamette River

Drink beer at Taylors or Sam Bond's Garage, or anywhere else.

Eat at Chez Ray's

Drive up Skinner's Butte

Hike up Spencer's Butte

If you hate "hippies" ignore all of these and hide inside.

Bring along a couple of your best graphic tee shirts (happiness is a warm gutpile, earth first-we'll log the other planets later, It's a good feeling at the top of the food chain) and walk around the malls stirring up the natives.

Local rivers are blown right now(though I may try the Mckenzie if a few days if it does not rain), Dexter is not fishing for trout though a few Pikeminnows are being caught, don't know about Dorena or Cottage Grove.

If you want to drive a little maybe the Siuslaw/Lake Creek?

There are a couple fly shops in town. Glen Wicks in Creswell for rod blanks.

As for other opportunities LS pretty well covered them.

Good luck and have fun!

If you like to watch birds, you could go out W.11th (Hwy 126) about 5 miles west of the city limits to ODFW's Fern Ridge Wildlife Area...there are thousands of wintering geese & ducks in the area...most of 'em know where the hunting areas are but at dusk it's quite an impressive show to watch them fly in to their overnight areas...watch them at Cantrell Road and Nielsen Road parking lots. There are quite a few snowy egrets around the lake, too. In town there is a small waterfowl viewing area on Stewart Road (off w.11th)...and a couple miles west off w.11th (before Fern Ridge) on Greenhill Rd there is a large wildlife viewing area on the BLM's Eugene Wetlands area.

If you want to fish (C&R), try the McKenzie around I-5...or go south 20 miles and fish for trout in the Row River...the area from the slack water at upper end of Dorena Res. up to the covered bridge (a mile or mile & half) can be good this time of year.

Taylors will be closed until the 27th, but its a great local bar. Also Rennies Landing, just down the road. Steelhead is another nice bar/restaurant, and Mucho Gusto has awesome food.

A new fishing store just opened up, Steelheaders West, its located on Q and Laura street in Springfield. The owner is just getting it started and loves to talk and take advice on what to stock.

The Willamette and McKenzie will be blown out so dont bother with those. Some lake fishing will be available, and Lake Creek or the Alsea are within reach for steelheading.

Chez Ray's is closed, FYI.

The 'hippie' vibe is extremely exaggerated...

I'm not sure how long its been since you ate there but...he moved from the campus location to downtown Eugene, near the bus stop. He lasted there maybe 3-4 years and that was that.

The french toast he made was sure killer!!

Wear tie-dye and Birkenstocks, smoke pot and complain about the current administration.

See, there's plenty to do in Eugene!

Default What to do in Eugene?

I'm stuck in Eugene over Christmas. What's there to do? Tackle shops to visit? Fishing? I'm from the eastside so I barely have a clue on what's going on over there. Any ideas? Thanks... Salm

Bring your magic markers and poster signs and you can protest. They're always complaining about something down there

Eugene Skinner had the homestead there ... they named the city after him. Don't remember who Spencer was, great view on a clear day though.

I have to go there get my glassblowing suplies, I am sure it ticks them off to so me burn a gallon of gas a block with the 460 in my ford. I expect to come out of the supply shop and find an electric motor in my truck and the bed filled with batterys some day. And the other guy is right they are ALWAYS protesting something down there. Vegitarian hippy central = Eugene....
