Default My goodness, it seems Gore JR has a problem!

Remember all the attacks that the "left" made towards our President when his children had a substance abuse related law enforcement contact? I guess it is only big news if it's a conservative republican's kid.

Quote:
In September 2002, the younger Gore was ticketed for driving under the influence. He was pulled over and ticketed by military police just outside Fort Myer in suburban Virginia, but was not taken into custody.

2nd offence to boot... :depressed:

Not to mention...

Quote:
In the summer of 2000, Gore was cited by the North Carolina Highway Patrol for driving 97 mph in a 55-mph zone. Under an agreement with prosecutors, a reckless driving charge was dropped in the North Carolina case, but he was fined $125 for speeding and his driving privileges in the state were suspended.

I seem to remember that the banter associated with the critique towards our beloved Commander in Chief was that he could not even manage his own children, so how could he run this great country...

Something like that???

Remember, any flaming will result in an archive search and full replication of past quotes.

Probably because The President George W. Bush is an important and powerful person. Al is a washed up, never-was.

When we started the Life In General forum, the intent was to provide a place for people to discuss the non-fishing events in their life; new kids, new jobs, marriages ... things related to OUR lives. Over time, topics only remotely related to our lives have come to dominate the LIG forum, driving a wedge in the community we've tried to build around a shared love of sport fishing. The internet is full of places were people can go to disagree with each other or to rub each other's faces in "it". I've been disappointed at what this forum has become - instead of education and information it's something else.

Based on topics and threads that have or have not been moderated in the past, I vote "No".

My personal opinion is that acceptable topics and subject matter need to be more clearly outlined here or in the AUP if we should expect more of what we've seen in the last couple of days.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Mike --- I felt, as perhaps you do, that there were many more inflammatory posts coming from the left. So I got my computer keyboard all warmed up and diligently searched the last few week's worth of posts on LIG. I was ready to brilliantly chastize Jenny and the moderators about criticizing the right while overlooking inflammatory posts from the left. You would have been proud of me.

Guess what I found. Most of the inflammatory posts come from us "far right" folks.

Dang!

Thumper,

I don't disagree with what you found. I know some of us "righties" go off half-cocked. If you notice in my reply above, I did not state which kind of posts were or were not moderated.

I believe there have been posts from both "sides" in the past much more inflammatory then Krue's post here, or the threads locked up yesterday that were not moderated.

My feeling is, that if we should expect more moderation in LIG, then going forward maybe we should understand which topics are off limits.

P.S. I hated typing "sides" in this response as I'd like to think we are all on the same side when it comes to the future of Ifish.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I certainly hope you do Jennie! These political threads serve no purpose no matter which side you're on. The chance of a constructive discourse goes out the window and it turns into a "Bush's fault" or "Clinton's fault" and nothing is settled.
I read on these political threads that those in opposition are called naive,a sad lot or worse. This isn't what ifish is about and if people needs to rant about their political beliefs then there are plenty of other place they can go to do it.
I would love to see an end to political threads.

Okay, back to the original topic. Maybe somebody who chooses to go into career politics should just have himself or herself sterilized. The Bush problems, Gore Jr., the Kennedy clan, etc. Maybe politics and parenting are mutually exclusive. I can't imagine the lack of time and attention those children get with parental units having to worry more about tomorrows newspaper than tonight’s child-problem. And I can only guess it gets worse with the level of political aspirations. "Sorry Tommy and Susie, we'll have to talk about that after the elections next year. Mommy and Daddy have just got too much to think about right now. By the way, with all these fund raisers and meet-and-greets, we have you scheduled for a family dinner in about 10 weeks."

It must be tough! I suspect that most of these children end up a little stunted as adults. At the very least, they end up seeking acknowlegment, attention and acceptance from whereever they can get it.

I have never put a whole lot of thought into what a politicians kid does. Every kid reguardless of who they are and who their parents are, has a good chance of becomming a lowlife.

But I think this was only posted because others in the past critisized Bush for similar stuff.

One more note about Life in General.

I think we should create a separate board to discuss political stuff. And leave this board for "life in General."

Some people really like to debate or argue. And some, myself included get fired up from time to time and need to be reminded to tone it down. But it really is just debate no matter what the topic. I like reading people's opinions on political stuff. But this is Jennie's board and what she says goes.

Hmmmmmm. I just wonder how many people here have kids that have gotten in trouble or have gotten in trouble themselves as kids... Bush or Gore, what does the actions of the kids have to do with the political qualifications of the parent? Isnt a little underage drinking or pot smoking pretty normal for about 90% of the kids in the USA? I certainly tried both in Highschool. The driving thing is kinda scary, but not too unusual. Take his licence away till he grows out of that.

I could give you 20 reasons why Gore is a jerk and 50 reasons why I like Bush, but none would be this lame. Sorry Kruechief.

I think it's counter-productive for the Mods and Jennie to deal with everyone else's political negativity all the time. I'm sure they have better things to do with their time.

I view other boards where the same negativity ruins participation.

When I log off, I prefer to do so with a positive image and a smile, not being ticked off about the war, the lies and the slamming of a political party. Too many members have turned into trolls.

We need more bird watching/gardening/hobby threads.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Exactamundo! The media liked to create big headlines when the Bush daughters get caught in bars while undeage...so what? Didn't mean Bush was a bad president. Our current governor was a state rep. in the Lane County area about 20 years ago and his kid got arrested for hitting a cop in the head with a beer bottle at one of the recurring UofO drunken street parties/brawls. At the time, the media made a big deal out of the fact that it was Ted's kid. I'm sure it embarrased poor ol' Ted...but it had nothing to do with Kulongoski's political or leadership ability.

Other than being somewhat humerous...imagining some politician you may not like twisting & contorting over the antics of their kids...these sorts of things really aren't very newsworthy.

But if someone wants to make a post on LIG spotlighting the transgressions of kids of famous people, I say let 'em...I just won't read it...or lose any sleep over it if I do.

Aunty,

Of course you have the right to comment, as do I.

No one said you have no right to comment. I pointed out the irony of your statement. I said nothing about the right to comment. Do I not have the same right as you????????

It seems what you are saying is you should have the right to comment but no one has the right to question the validity of what you say.

It works both ways. It is an exchange. People post comments, opinions and thoughts. Other people reply with their comments, opinions and thoughts..... that what forums are.

Again, no one even hinted that you did not have the right to comment. I merely executed my equal right to point out the irony of your comment. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you can not accept that people are going to see some things differently than you and comment on them, then this is not the place for you to be interacting, in my opinion.

BTW, you certainly have the right to disprove the irony I saw. Did I misinterpret when I felt you said one thing but did just the opposite, or was it just the fact that I chose to comment on it that upsets you?

Dont take the political stuff off... its great entertainment reading it!

Listen people if you dont want to get envolved in the political dodo dont comment on these threads. I have found there are two things almost everyone is very biased on, politics and religion. You arent going to change anyones minds but reading the posts on both sides gives me a good laugh sometimes!

This all looks like old re-run's of the stuff that used to appear on the Oregon Live forums to me?

If pro-internet arguing is all you have to do I suppose. I'll take dead fish pictures anyday.

All I wanted to do is point to something that was in the news. I think it is ironic that when the Bush girls were in trouble it was a family trait issue and a sign of the President's character and/or abilities.

I think you guys should do us all a favor and take your politics elsewhere. You know of course it's not your constituional right to rant and rave here if Jennie doesn't want you to, so go somewhere else and do it.

In the spirit of the Holidays, let's just let this topic go. I've still got lights to string, cookies to bake and decorate, neighbors to visit, presents to wrap and deliver, family to call, firewood to split, and probably more that I'm forgetting ... Merry Christmas!
