Default King Salmon Stocking Shasta County Calif 10-26

Today at 12;07 , 53,000 6" King salmon where introduced to one of the tributaries of Shasta Lake. This is the start of a great thing for all of us and our grandchildren. Fish and Game would like your help if you catch any of these new fish. They have all been marked , by cutting the right upper lip of the King.
Project manager and biologist Monty Currier would like to hear from you by e-mail any information , such as pictures or where they where caught. Thanks in advance for any help you all give. I have not had waders on for over 20 years.
e-mail mcurrier@dfg.ca.gov

Awesome Moose how long does it take those fish to grow to be keepers. Will they spawn and make more Salmon?

Grayfish
By June they will be in the 1 1/2 to 2 lb range. These fish that were stocked are already 10 mos old . The eggs are collected at the Iron Gate hatchery on the Klamath River, The eggs are taken to the Crystal Creek hatchery for the next set in there life. In hopes that at 3 & 4 year olds will return to spawn
up river from Shasta lake.

Mike
There size will depend on the feed in Shasta Lake. The past few years 8 lb
King is a monster. This year 6 to 7 lbs was about it. The lake has been vary low the past few years and water temperatures have keep them a bay. They must have 42 to 46 degree water temps to survive . Once they are staging
at there last days of life water temp is out of the picture. Then they head up rivers to creeks to spawn

I caught these during the first part of this summer. These were last years planters. They were in the 10-12 inch range.

This one was about 4 pounds.

Thanks guys It would be nice to see them get some substantial gains that would put them in the teens

So I assume they are pretty much on the same life cycle as a Kokanee??

I just saw two gillnet boats being towed across the Ore/Cali border.
So much for the Shasta run....
