Collecting stone and rock
I talked to a woman at work who told me that she had gotten a permit and maps to the abandoned quarries around the state. She spent the summer collecting stone for doing hardscaping in her yard. Does anyone know anything about this? I've searched the web high and low and am still coming up empty handed.

Re: Collecting stone and rock
If you need landscape rock you can go to the forest service and get a permit for I think 5 dollars and go up the Clackamas drainage and collect rock in the old quarries. If you want plants I believe the permit will let you take them also.

Re: Collecting stone and rock
According to the (sometimes tempermental website) Oregon Rock Collecting Guide by the BLM (linked above):
Quote:
Collecting Limits & Permits: You can collect a reasonable amount of rocks and minerals from BLM lands, but a permit or fee may be needed if you exceed certain amounts described below. Note that the collecting limits for petrified wood are slightly different.
