Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
I just picked up a canon A70. Small with lots of features. My first digital camera and was pretty easy to figure out. Although I would like one, I just couldn't justify one of the higher end cameras. Would be afraid to take it fishing.

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
There are cameras out there that do claim to be water resistant (not the same as waterproof). That was something that I was interested in when I bought mine. The Canon A70 (A60 and A80) have a Waterproof housing that is available for it. Fairly expensive accessory but will make it waterproof. I haven't bought it for mine (A70)though.

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
I second the vote for the Sony series...I have a P70, and it takes great pics. I'm going to keep it for my fishing camera, and get a 5.0 MP Sony for everything else!!

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
A 2 mega-pixel is all you'll need for fishing pictures and will save you some money. Just make sure you get one with an optical zoom feature (some to the cheaper ones only have digital zoom). I'm very satisfied with my Nikon Coolpix 2100 (fits in my shirt pocket) and they're available for $175 now on some internet shopping sites. Good luck!

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
Thumper, one of my fishing buddies just bought a waterproof case his digital fits into. Not sure how deep it will go,but it's made for under water use. Oh and all camera functions work inside the case.

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
The Olympus Stylus 400 -- 4 MP 3x Optical zoom plus some digital zoom AND the camera is waterproof -- no special housing needed -- don't take it scuba diving -- but it is water tight. It is a compact camera and produces great photos. Usual retail is $399 with the ads giving a free XD memory card (64MB)

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
What about digital cameras that shoot still photos and movies? Anyone have any advice on one that does a fairly good job with both?

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
I know the Canon A70 (3.2MP) and the Nikon 3100 (3.2MP) both do still and MPEG video. The only difference I could find between the two was that the Canon also records sound with the video. The Nikon didn't. I bought the Canon A70 and have enjoyed learning to use it. Takes great photos and is very simple to use.

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
Thanks for all of your input, I just wanted to let you know I went with the Sony cybershot P92 5.0 megapixel. I was also considering the canon A-80 or the Nikon coolpix 4300, and of course the Olympus stylus 400, but the review, along with the price of the Sony were just to good to pass up.

Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
I am tired of the old Poloriod 640pdc, and would like to step up to either a 3 or 4 megapixel camera to take with me fishing this spring, does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
fish-addict, you might want to look into the sony cybershot line. they are small and compact. they will fit in a front shirt pocket but still large enough to use without squinting at everything. I have a 3.3 mega pixel and love it. I take it with me everywhere I go. Hope this helps. Hagen

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
A couple of others you may want to check out are the Minolta Dimage XI or the Casio Exlim. I think both are 3.2 mega-pixels, 4x digital zoom and will fit in your front shirt pocket.

Search the archives here too - lots of helpful past threads on this topic. From Ifisher recomendations, I got the Canon S30 Powershot and have been extremely pleased.

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
Bought a Canon A40 a couple years ago. Very satisfied with it.
If you search this forum you will find lots of input. Very little on the main board on cameras.....it's mostly fishing related.

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
Steelie Steve,
How long (minutes) of video will the Canon shoot? Is there a memory card that will let it shoot long videos? I would want to have sound, so the Canon may be what I am looking for.

Re: Looking for new Digital Camera for fishing
Waterfish - I have the Canon A70. The camera uses the Compact Flash Cards. I have a 128MB card for mine. With that card, the manual says that it will take up to 973 seconds of video at the lowest resolution. At the highest resolution it will hold about 124 seconds. You can buy a 256MB CF card also.
Here are the Product Specs for the A70.
It is a nice simple to use camera. Good luck with your search. If you have questions, just ask.
