Default Jig Help

While watching my Jig today I noticed they didnt have much action, The feathers just sucked down next to the hook and looked like a little pink stick in the water. I tried a jig made of yarn and it kinda fluffed up a little and sure enough FISH ON. Any ideas on how to get more action out of the Maribou???

I have a few maribou jigs that I put too much scent on and now they don't "fluff up" like your talking about. I tried to clean them with wd-40 and lemon joy, and they are a little better now, but nothing like a fresh, unscented jig. Now I'm a little more careful with my scent placement.

GOT2FISH - did you wrap the marabou around the hook shank like a hackle or did you tie the marabou in by the tips? You will get more action if you wrap the marabou like a hackle.

These were store bought I had one last year in May that took seven fish in a row lost it on the 8 th pulled another out of the tackle box and didnt get another bite. I can look down off the bridge and in slow flows most of these just suck rite in and do nothing.

GOT2FISH

Willow Drifter is right. All my jigs that I tie are palmered feathers including my four feather Salmon marabou jig. The profile in the water looks nice and full with good action. If you would like a sample jig to try and see the difference for yourself just send me an e-mail.

I just sent off for my first order of First Cast Jigs. I Can't wait to get them wet. Do you fish them alone, with bait, trailer? Thanks in advance.

Live2Fish - Here is my answer to that. With bait/without bait. With scent/without scent. With trailer/witout trailer. That is the absolute beauty of jigs, they are so versatile.

Don't limit yourself to just steelhead either. Salmon and trout love them, so do Dollys if you have them in your area.

Check the stream regs before you use bait or scent though.

If you have a jig that's potentially "skanky" from sitting in a tackle box too long or has "old" scent on it, wash it with Lemon Joy soap.

I use only FCJ's now,but when I fished with
Marabou I would wash the jig with liquid dish soap(Lemon Joy)the feathers would fluff right away.
Try it put your jig in a glass of water it looks like a stick wash it with joy or?? and it will fluff instantly.
But better yet buy First Cast Jigs and don't worry just hang on.
