Default What would you do

I just bought an "09 Thunderjet with a 115 Suzuki motor. Now I find out according to the motor S/N it is a 2007. Is this normal practice, if not what would be the thing to do...

If you bought the outfit as new and never used. The engine could have been manufactured in 2007 and still be considered a new engine. No problem that I know of. Maybe more info needed.

Good Luck

Check your sales invoice and see if they noted the year. Does Suzuki use a MY?

I know Yamaha has completely dropped model year from its motor designations and goes completely by model number. Maybe Suzuki does the same thing.

At any rate I'd check the model number and see if its the most current model. If it is I wouldn't worry about it too much. If not I would be a little ****** unless it was advertised as an old motor.

Save a few $$ with last years motor no sweat, I did too, but if you thought you were buying a 09 motor with a 09 boat and you didn't, and did not know or were not told of that as a option to save money, you were miss led. The resale price of a 1 or 2 year old motor is less and the price of the boat should refleck that price. All in all it will work but you asked what I would do ? I would try to work with them on a ajustment of the price, or shop around for another manufacture and a different boat, cause are you really going to go back for service in the future to that dealership with out feeling shafted,,,,,,,,,,,, Good luck let us know what you do,,,,,,,,,,HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE

When I picked my O/S up. I was looking it all over. I to found that the engines had been manufactures in 2005 and the boat in 2006
what I was told. Was that the engines are titled out as 2006
as was the boat. the warrenty started when I signed the
paperwork taking ownership of the boat. I'm sure it the same
with you.

I see no problem with the warrenty, It should start when paper work is signed and run full term. I see a issue with the new owner not knowing he was buying last years motor, even if no changes were made to this years motor the dealer should of offered him a discount to take the older motor out of his inventory, Lets say 2010 motor is 15k , but if you want you can buy a brand new 2008 motor, same dealer no changes between the two except for the serial number reads 08 instead of 10 for say 15k what would you do ? I have a 2005 boat when the dealer wanted to know if I wanted to SAVE A FEW dollars and go with a 2003 motor I did the math and said yes, The only point im trying to make is the new owner should of been told and he could of made the choice himself.,,,,,,,,HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK

I bought a 09 Yami and it still had the date on the motor or maybe it's incorporated into the SN kind of like the HIN number? When I just bought a motor I looked to see when it was built because I know how they are.

So did you think you were buying a 09 or 10? if they were not up front about it in the first place I'd be hot. If you were discounted thousands of dollars because of it then you should be ok with it. Resale will not be as good on it if you paid the same price as a 09.

Same thing happened to me when I bought my 08 -- it had an 07 motor on it. Didn't matter because the motor warranty starts on date of sale.

I purchased a new North River in December of 07 and I bought it with a new 2007 Suzuki 90 hps and a 2007 Yamaha High Thrust 8 hps. The new 2008 North River boats and motors were out, so I was able to talk them down since they were 2007 models.
