Default Jimi Hendrix, Oh Yeah!!

Just wondering how many ifishers out there are Hendrix fans. I could listen to Electric Ladyland for hours on end. The Blues album is another great one. When he punches the overdrive during the Electric Church Red House solo it makes my hairs stand on end. Jimi is the man.

(You'll have to excuse me as I've been tying dozens of caballero flies for a local flyshop tonight, and I think I'm crosseyed right now. )

Alot of people look at Jimi as one of the greatest lead guitarists but where he really shined was in his rythem playing. The guy was a phenominal rythem player.

I'm with you Tanner. The fills he plays between and during the phrases he is singing are unlike anyone else. You can just tell his brain was wired different than the rest of us. Makes me wonder how many other geniuses are out there but ended up driving a truck or something.

Can you imagine what an experience it would have been to see Jimi and SRV play together?

Maybe, but there sure are plenty of people who took plenty of acid and didn't end up like Jimi did. Genius I mean, not dead.

The above list, IMO, should include Stevie Vai.

How about Ted Nugent who also idolized Jimi Hendrix. I love the sound of a hollow body byrdland and the NUGE plays it the best.

Jimi could play rythem while playing lead, that is what is crazy about his playing. He wouldn't play a chord, he would just rip out some ridiculous lead that sounds like a couple of chords being played.

Another great one is Eric Clapton. Hendrix played clubs in England before he became popular in America. Clapton saw one of his shows and commented to another guitarist (I believe it was Peter Townsend) that they had better watch out because Hendrix was going to change the way the guitar was played.

Jimi was the man.
Back in the late 70's when I was in college, we would go pay tribute to Jimi on his birthday at his grave site(Sunset Cemetary in Renton, WA. About 30 feet from the sundial). Pretty wild times. Several hundred young people would show up. People were good not to trash the place or be disrespectful to others residing there.
The King County Sheriffs dept paid us a visit one year. Got arrested one year for minor in possession. Case was dismissed.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Jimmy Page couldn't hold Jeff's Beck's pick. The Yardbirds were nothing after Beck left  Just kidding the list goes on there are numerous great guitarists out there.

I still try and play some Hendrix licks now and again. You read the tab's follow them but realize the intricacy can't be duplicated by just playing the same notes.

I guess I either didn't do enough yellow sunshine in the 60's and 70's or maybe I did toooooo much

Kenai Kidd, I believe Townsend's reply was, "I think it's time to find another job"
