Miss B reported it first, but I just got an emergency e mail alert about it, too.
WOW!
I know this isn't fishing related, but there couldn't be more important news to all of us.

Good morning! What great news!!! I fear that we will still be in Iraq for years to come with a military presence. I only hope this helps to bring our troops home quicker and make is safer for when they are there.

I think we owe our military people in Iraq a "Job Well Done" for this accomplishment!

When I logged on this morning I had to actually forget Ifish for a moment & run to the TV to watch the coverage!

Man this has been a long time a commin'!

I sure hope this breaks the backs/will of the insurgents that are constantly harrassing our troops.

Today is a very good day!

It cost 456 American soldiers their lives.

I hardly think it is worth the price, especially since we now know about all the lies (uranium ?) that got us into Iraq in the first place.

Hopefully this means the war will be over sooner.

Its a good thing that our troops found him. My wife has threatned several times to go to Iraq personally to get Saddam, so I wouldn't have to go there myself. I think that he is being treated a whole lot better by the troops than he would have been treated by my wife.

Osama bin-Ladin, if you dont surrender soon my wife is going to get an attitude that you don't want any part of!

Our son called at 3 am (he is in the Army) and said "Remember when you woke me up as the Berlin wall was coming down? Now it's my turn to wake you up and witness history in the making" That was the best way to have to wake up at 3 am!

Finally!

Thank you all for your sacrifices, and also thanks to the families of those that serve, I appreciate all that you have to go through as well.

It still doesn't make it right for us to be there

We Finally Got Our Frankenstein... and He Was In a Spider Hole! -- by Michael Moore

December 14, 2003

Thank God Saddam is finally back in American hands! He must have really missed us. Man, he sure looked bad! But, at least he got a free dental exam today. That's something most Americans can't get.

America used to like Saddam. We LOVED Saddam. We funded him. We armed him. We helped him gas Iranian troops.

But then he screwed up. He invaded the dictatorship of Kuwait and, in doing so, did the worst thing imaginable -- he threatened an even BETTER friend of ours: the dictatorship of Saudi Arabia, and its vast oil reserves. The Bushes and the Saudi royal family were and are close business partners, and Saddam, back in 1990, committed a royal blunder by getting a little too close to their wealthy holdings. Things went downhill for Saddam from there.

But it wasn't always that way. Saddam was our good friend and ally. We supported his regime. It wasn’t the first time we had helped a murderer. We liked playing Dr. Frankenstein. We created a lot of monsters -- the Shah of Iran, Somoza of Nicaragua, Pinochet of Chile -- and then we expressed ignorance or shock when they ran amok and massacred people. We liked Saddam because he was willing to fight the Ayatollah. So we made sure that he got billions of dollars to purchase weapons. Weapons of mass destruction. That's right, he had them. We should know -- we gave them to him!

We allowed and encouraged American corporations to do business with Saddam in the 1980s. That's how he got chemical and biological agents so he could use them in chemical and biological weapons. Here's the list of some of the stuff we sent him (according to a 1994 U.S. Senate report):

* Bacillus Anthracis, cause of anthrax.

* Clostridium Botulinum, a source of botulinum toxin.

* Histoplasma Capsulatam, cause of a disease attacking lungs, brain, spinal cord, and heart.

* Brucella Melitensis, a bacteria that can damage major organs.

* Clostridium Perfringens, a highly toxic bacteria causing systemic illness.

* Clostridium tetani, a highly toxigenic substance.

And here are some of the American corporations who helped to prop Saddam up by doing business with him: AT&T, Bechtel, Caterpillar, Dow Chemical, Dupont, Kodak, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM (for a full list of companies and descriptions of how they helped Saddam, go here).

We were so cozy with dear old Saddam that we decided to feed him satellite images so he could locate where the Iranian troops were. We pretty much knew how he would use the information, and sure enough, as soon as we sent him the spy photos, he gassed those troops. And we kept quiet. Because he was our friend, and the Iranians were the "enemy." A year after he first gassed the Iranians, we reestablished full diplomatic relations with him!

Later he gassed his own people, the Kurds. You would think that would force us to disassociate ourselves from him. Congress tried to impose economic sanctions on Saddam, but the Reagan White House quickly rejected that idea -- they wouldn’t let anything derail their good buddy Saddam. We had a virtual love fest with this Frankenstein whom we (in part) created.

And, just like the mythical Frankenstein, Saddam eventually spun out of control. He would no longer do what he was told by his master. Saddam had to be caught. And now that he has been brought back from the wilderness, perhaps he will have something to say about his creators. Maybe we can learn something... interesting. Maybe Don Rumsfeld could smile and shake Saddam's hand again. Just like he did when he went to see him in 1983 (see the photo here).

Maybe we never would have been in the situation we're in if Rumsfeld, Bush, Sr., and company hadn't been so excited back in the 80s about their friendly monster in the desert.

Meanwhile, anybody know where the guy is who killed 3,000 people on 9/11? Our other Frankenstein?? Maybe he's in a mouse hole.

So many of our little monsters, so little time before the next election.

Stay strong, Democratic candidates. Quit sounding like a bunch of wusses. These ******** sent us to war on a lie, the killing will not stop, the Arab world hates us with a passion, and we will pay for this out of our pockets for years to come. Nothing that happened today (or in the past 9 months) has made us ONE BIT safer in our post-9/11 world. Saddam was never a threat to our national security.

Only our desire to play Dr. Frankenstein dooms us all.

For a look back to the better times of our relationship with Saddam Hussein, see the following:

Silverfish you have a 100% negative outlook on this remarkable news. This man has killed thousands and thousands of human beings. The loss of only one of our troops is not worth his life but the saving of thousands of others is what it's all about. Those 458 Americans who gave up their lives did it not just for America, but they did it for everyone, including those who are not American. So put your sorry negative pessimistic outlook into you pants where it belongs and shove off!!

"How can anyone not be happy that Saddam has been caught?"

Krue,
It’s political hatred from the extreme left. This will make the president look good so it is bad for their goals. They would rather see thousands of our citizens killed instead of the capture of this monster.
Next you'll see them complaining about how he is being mistreated

Omigod, Keta you hit it on the head! Cardinal in the Vatican has come out and proclaimed that Sadaam was not treated with dignity and respect due him. I'm an ashamed Catholic now!

Where do these people come from?

1. George Bush stole the election.
2. George Bush caused the recession
3. George Bush knew about 911 and did nothing.
4. George Bush caused the collapse of Enron.
5 George Bush lied to us about Sadaam. Mcdermutt from Washington State said Sadaam was telling the truth and GW was lying.
6. GW landed on the carrier to further his political ambitions.
7. GW flew to Thanksgiving dinner in Iraq, held up a fake Turkey and shook hands with the troops just so he could be re-elected.
8. He knew where Sadaam was all along but waited for just the right time to tell the troops it was time to arrest him. ( Again according to Mcdermutt.)
9. To make a long story short GW will be blamed for everything that happens from here on out until the Dems win the White House Back. And you can bet even then for ten years afterward they will blame GW for anything that happens.

For all his faults former VP Spiro Agnew summed it up right when he referred to the "Nattering Nabobs of Negativity"
