Default Cascade Lakes Help

HI Guys,

Headed to Marion this weekend and I was wondering what to bring. I know Wooley buggers work well, but I want to have more than one option. Maybe a dropper fly? Sink tips for trolling flys (how deep should I be fishing)? Other techniques?

Also I generally fish streams so I'm not sure what type of water to look for in a lake. Closer to shore? Drop offs (how do you find them without a fish finder)?

Finally, I know it is a big lake, so I was wondering if a float tube will be a good idea. I was told that you need to cover a lot of water and an inflatable boat might be more efficient...?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

TZ

I've not fly fished Marion but a raft or float tube would be beneficial. I caught fish all over the lake but near the point on the east side and near where Jack Creek comes into the lake on the west side are both areas where I have done well. I think the bay near the outlet of Marion Creek is still closed but you can watch fish feed there and get a good idea of what they are feeding on.

Back in the Day...I remember some awesome black mayfly hatches up there. And a LOT of big fish in Schools. Hope you dont freeze your heiny off! This time of year can be dicey, so watch those reports. You might even get some snow! Nice hike in..about 3 miles I think.
Good Luck! Youll remember this place for sure!

Yeah, I think I'll leave the float tube home and bring a boat... staying out of the water should help keeping warm.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tied some red, black and candy cane chronomids last night and will definitely try them. Have some buggers as well. I'll let you know how I did if we spank them

Yep, theres a road to the trailhead with a fair amount of parking. Then the hike begins.....3-4 miles up up and away...!
