Default Posting pics once again

Ok....I have a state of the art computer, scanner, and digital camera. Why is it that I cannot post a clear fish picture. I take them off the camera and send them to friends and family. I print on photo paper making a perfect color picture as good as a developed one. I work with allot of graphics on a daily basis at work and home.

I have to download from the camera which the DPI is set high. I want it like this so I get good quality. I have to print the picture off then re scan it on my scanner at 72 DPI to make is small enough to upload. Then it comes out distorted.

What am I doing wrong folks. It cannot be this hard. The thing is, I keep getting different answers from everyone.

Please help!

Thanks

It's the rescanning that is killing you. What you want to do is use one of the software packages to reduce the size and pixel density of the picture. In Photoshop, this is done through saving for web. If you have a nikon camera and the nikon software, you can do this in a blunt force way when you download the picture from the card.

But what is killing you is the re-scanning. You will have to learn enough about one or another of the pieces of software that come with the camera to handle the re-sizing. If you have either Adobe Photdeluxe or the Nikon download software, I could talk you through the resizing. What do you have?

Dont rescan the picture.

Download Irfan View. (instructions on IFISH).

Open your pic in Irfan View. Select "image" then "resize". Change the width to 900 and the height to 600. This should bring your file down to 93KB.Dont change anything else.

Yes, the re-scan is the culprit. Just use any decent graphics program to perform a jpeg compression to reduce the file size rather than re-scan. I use Paintshop pro but there are many others...

I think the scanning and re-sizing are both the problems. It used to happen to me too. It shouldn't make a difference in camera but the kodak software i use gives me the option to save the pic a certain size after i've cropped it to start (unwanted backround )... small web 240x180 ..large web 480x360..as a JPEG, and larger if you wish. Good luck
