Big fire east of Siletz/101 bridge Saturday?

OK, so the wife and I were driving back to PC from Newport on Saturday (we went to see
"Captain and Commander") and as we crossed the Siletz River at hywy 101 we could see
a HUGE fire in the hills to the East. The flames were really high! Looked like the whole
hillside was on fire.

Anybody got a clue as to what was going on? My wife said it was too big a fire to be
a house fire. Hard to believe it was a forrest fire because it had been raining cats
and dogs for the past 24 hours.

Come on, *somebody* must know what was happening ...

Had they been logging in the area? If so, they may have been burning multiple slash piles.

That's what I thought when my wife first pointed the fire out to me, but this fire was HUGE
and appeared to be consuming a major portion of the hillside. I think it was WAY too large
to be a slash burn ...

I have seen that fire ball many times. Got to tell you its pretty weird. I run into the kitchen and get the aluminum foil and fold it into a hat and put it on right away. It's that local space ship that is trying to find a place to land. It just torches the trees in any area that looks good. Man, I hope we are safe. Did you ever see those little guys jump out of their ship? Saw them actually land in the Siletz River while I was fishing earlier this year. They said that Coyote Rock RV wouldn't let them land and camp there so they were gonna swim around awhile an cool off. Something about their A/C units in their craft not functioning. Well, I gotta go add some x-mas lights to my aluminum foil hat so that those little guys will spot me easier next time they come around. Hope this answers your question as to the big one on the East side of 101 Bridge.

This time of year it's gotta be pile burning. Have done alot of this and somtimes it can look pretty impressive.

All I can say is that I am really happy that you didn't see that fire on the "West" side of the bridge on 101. WHEW, taxes and property insurance along with flood insurance is high enough.
Did you take your boat out of D-Bay for the winter?

Nope, the boat is still in the water. As soon as the mechanic can make room
for me I'll take it out and have the yearly outdrive service work done... I just
hope I can get it done before the season opener on March 15, 2004! Wish that OTHER
guy would get his boat out of there. He's been "storing" it there since last spring <sigh>.
