Nothing but 3 1/4 inches of rain at my house ... no work in the neighborhood, no fires, nothing on the news or the City web site. Glad I have a stash of bottled water in the cellar, but I guess I'll skip the bath today.

Default Mud slide - Bull Run????

Here I sit in central Portland and I can't drink or use my tap water! I have no idea why the water is so bad, but I have to suspect recent "thinning" in the Bull Run Resevoir is to blame for this.

Hmmm.....haven't seen that in a while. That's pretty bad. I remember getting some off color water from time to time, but I wouldn't even fish in that crap, let alone drink it.
I better take a look at my tap water. I'm in the Powell Valley Water District, but I'm sure it's Bull Run.
That wouldn't be water from PDX's backup wells, would it? That stuff can get a little funky.

Pete, Have you called the water dept. in your area to come flush the mains. There could be a main problem or some illegal water taken from a hydrand that caused water hammer in the system, the city could be exercising valves in a maintence program and didnt flush after doing the maintence. Or it could be a combination of one of these items and what they call "fall color" this is where the leaves in Bull Run stain the water in the lake. Bull Run is not a filtered system, they take the water from the lake and clorinate it but the do not filter it yet.

Call your water dept. and have them fix it, you pay for the service. Discolered water is easy to create and easy to eliminate by flushing the system.

That water was on Sunday afternoon. Not much chance there was Water Bureau work going on. It cleared after about 4 hours. I was just about to clean my daughter's aquarium when the water started running funky. There are certainly many possible causes, but considering the timing and it's proximity to the very heavy rainfall, I'd look first at an event in the resevoir.

OK, I got the story. There was a broken water main at SE 8th and Alder. The Water Bureau believed the water was dirty because of the reduced level of street-leaf cleaning by the Office of Transportation, so they didn't send a crew to inspect until several hours after the first reports of a problem. In the process of repairing the main, the Water Bureau broke a sewer line. What really exasperates me about all this is that neither the Water Bureau's recorded message nor their web site provided any information about the situation.

Pete I think that you would of got a better response from almost any water dist. other than City of Portland, the big guys dont have the best cust. service when they have the monopoly on the metro area.

Yes Love2fish that was me. I turned one too many valves too soon and I got on the news the bad way, but I ducked the T.V. van and didnt have to see myself on the news, just the temp. results.
