ORS, your optimistic outlook on life fills me with warm fuzzies.

I hope it was just what was supposed to happen. Hope it wasn't because we stuck our nose in where it didn't belong again. God must get really unhappy with us messing with stuff all the time. :depressed:

Life is great! There are ducks in the air, fish in the water, a dead whale in Norway and a bunch of kids with empty piggy banks who were convinced to send their money to an organization with a lost cause. How much better can life get?

Gimee a break - it's late, I'm tired and I'm half joking anyway.

There was a similar situation in Prince William Sound with an otter. Some kids raised a bunch of money to save it after the exxon valdez, then they had a big fanfare with its release. The thing got aten by a killer whale 200 yds from the release site (like 10 minutes after its freedom).

I still believe the kids should try. Life happens. Feeling good about what you do and the impact it has is always a good thing. Sometimes the outcome isn't what you want but it doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

That animal did a lot of thing for a lot of people. Making some rich, making a lot happy. To think of all the things that he went through in his 27 years. How many of us watch as he was UPS'ed into Newport? I went down I saw him a few times during his stay in Oregon and followed his progress in Iceland.

It was too bad he could not get over the emotional attachment to human company. Otherwise the reintroduction attempt may have succeeded.

He should have stayed in captivity, or better yet not captured in the first place.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
I could understand millions being spent on an enedangered or threatened species, but he was neither.

Sad story but there is no justification for the millions spent on that whale. The real tragedy was the fact that the whale was captured and removed from the wild in the first place. What's next, a million dollar memorial for the whale? They should have let that whale go immediately and let it fend for itself. Instead it's media circus flying that dying whale around the world. Another case of flushing money down the drain.

On the morning news the "Top Story" was about Keiko. Give me a break. There has got to be more important stories than a dead whale.

Sorry to see anything die in a wasteful manner, but I do believe the millions could have been spent much more wisely.

I will not argue that the money could have been better spent. I will argue the fact that is a valuable lesson to teach children that if they put their mind to it and work as a team just about anything is possible. It is always refreshing to see children do something that adults can't seem to.
