M.R.I. results. GULP!!!
Yesterday , I got the results from the M.R.I..
What I was told was so upsetting that surgery sounded wonderful.
The doc was up set because he had not expected it .
He told me that the damage to my spine was so bad that what is happening is atrophy. My spine is dieing or waisting away.
There is an inch long scare on my spine and that entire inch is starting to waist or shrink. There is nothing to do but hope that it stops before I am crippled to the point I cant get around .
He(Doc) was obviously up set , he had no words of comfort except that I should enjoy what I have while I have it. Geesh , I feel bad now.
I am going to enjoy it before its all gone. id. painter

My prayers are with you...
I am sure that you have thought of this, but have you looked at traveling to a major research center that deals with injuries like yours. In the past several years there have been amazing strides in cns injuries and neurodegenerative diseases. It sounds like to me it is time to look for an expert. This is not saying that the care you have recieved is bad but now it might be a good time look at other treatments and options.
That being said, please, please, please try to stay hopeful. Don't let the depression get to you, that won't make things any better.

Okay, I don't think I can take any more bad news this season! Chris - We're praying for a miracle, but get a second opinion anyway.
Which part of your spine is this affecting? What is the prognosis if it continues?
Gosh, I dunno what to say. My heart goes out to you and your family! :depressed: Keep us posted.

Re: M.R.I. results. GULP!!!
Wow. Sorry to hear this, id.
Remember though, there is a reason they call it "practicing" medicine. Get another opinion and know there are many, many people around and enjoying active lives today that were once told they would soon pass on or be crippled or other such tragic things.
Never stop believing. Be a postive believer and live life to it's fullest every day.

I'm with SD on this. Get another opinion. Use the net, it's an invaluable tool to find a solution.
Good luck and keep a stiff upper lip.

So sorry, Chris. You have friends and we are with you. Lets hear about what the specialist has to say.
You are high on the list of guys from Idaho who will have a shot at catching a TUNA! in 2004. Just ask any of your friends here about that.

Re: M.R.I. results. GULP!!!
Please pray. I have never ask anyone for thier prayers before .
I am going to send the x-rays and the M.R.I. images to Denver . The center there is world renouned for this kind of stuff.I will learn more .
Im having a bit of trouble not feeling sorry for my self.
im at school and feeling sorry for my self and who comes to chat. Nathan. He is an 8th grade boy who walks with two walker arms attached to his arms. He was born with a birth defect and has never known "normal". He hobbles from class to class , . I walk way better than Nate.
It reminded me that we are all blessed in someway ,,, I saw the spark in Nathan's eyes this morning ,he is doing what he can with what he has and loving life. I said good morning and I got a gient smile and" good morning to you Mr. Tiller" Things will be O.K. A second opinion and a little mirical. I have faith that some good will come of all this. Dang ,,,, the doctor also told me that I was not to life over 50lbs for the rest of my life. Albicore dont weigh that much do they ? Ill take someone along who can lift my Halibut in the boat. He told me that fighting big fish is a risk. I need a reel with a extra good drag then, right.
Im not a quiter. Im going to refuse to go easily. Live ... id. painter

Re: M.R.I. results. GULP!!!
Sorry. I know how back injuries are. I have a ruptured L-5 and a herniated L-4 and I'm 24. Every day is a miserable day. Except the days you go fishing/or hunting.

Re: M.R.I. results. GULP!!!
Nope, you're not hopeless. It's a-okay to feel sorry for yourself. You're losing something. Nathan never had it.
You just don't let yourself stay there too long, okay? Stay focused on the positive and keep looking for the lesson or "message."
Keep us posted on what Denver has to say!

Re: M.R.I. results. GULP!!!
Id.painter: it's ok to feel sorry for yourself. But don't let yourself become mired in it. There's a book you should read: Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. It's about the concentration camps and what it took to survive them. According to Viktor, and I'm inclined to agree, the key ingredient is hope. As long as you have hope, you have something to live for. Your life may change drastically but it's not over.
You only truly fail when you stop trying.

Re: M.R.I. results. GULP!!!
Talk to Jennie about not being able to fish. Or row boats for that matter. She'll tell you how she hasn't done those things either because her doctor said not to...... And the dire dire reasons why.

Re: M.R.I. results. GULP!!!
Thanks you all. Im feeling a bit better today. Im setting up a trip to Denver ... Ill get more of an understanding of what the heck is going on .
This whole idea that my spine is starting to atrophy is brand new to me. It was never mentioned as a possibility, and it comes as a shock. I was under the impression that I was on the mend and that would be the end . I realize there are exceptions to everything but ... This is all new ...
Im going to get a appointment with some specialists and spend some time with a list of written questions.
Each time I go to the doc. I get a big bunch of new news and Im not able to digest it that quickly. I always forget what to ask at that moment. Ill do better if I go in armed with some questions. Thanks to all.... I have hope ,,,,, I refuse to quit trying ,,, Im going to be a damn Tuna Capt. yet.!!!!
