Shou - I looked at one at Sportsmans in Salem on Saturday. Nice looking boats! I like the options they have available as well. I was looking really hard at the Diamond Backs until I saw that one - now I'm going to have to regroup.

The person on the oars matters quite a lot. The make and model will matter in big water. Even then, the oarsman matters a lot.

Good Luck.

I guess I have to buy an oarsman too, huh? This boat is getting more expensive every day.

Default DB Question

So, I'm starting to look at purchasing a driftboat this spring. I've ridden in a couple, but have never owned or operated one. I have LOOKED at several - Alumaweld, Willies, Diamond Back, Fishright (I think that's the one that's made in Sisters), Clackacraft, etc.

So far, I know that I want the following features:

1. It will fit me plus 3 in the boat
2. Will take a kicker - so an off-set anchor system
3. Aluminum

I really like the looks of the Diamond Backs, Fishrights and Willies. But I have no idea what to look for in quality, construction, etc. They all seem to be around the same price - the Willies of course is a bit more than the other two. I don't really want to break the bank.

So, any advise for the rookie DB'er to be?

If you plan to fish three others besides yourself...I would look at a bigger boat...17' or bigger. All the brand names you listed are good

I've been in all kinds of Drift boats. I personaly own 17ft fishrite. I think that would be your best bet. Talk to Jamie he is the owner. They are stationed in central point I belive near Medford or in Medford. Willie, From Willies boats trained Jamie.
