Default Need some wisdom

I finally got in a corner I couldn't fight out of. I need your help for the next time.

Here's the problem - I started blowing and raking leaves to get the place cleaned up so I can hunt/fish when conditions allow. It started pouring rain and looked to be set in so I thought I should go in and watch football til it quit. My wife thought I ought to stay out there in the rain, when I whined she asked how come I can hunt/fish all day in the rain and can't rake leaves??? I was speechless after a few weak excuses and now I need your help in plotting for the next crisis.

Know any good ones????????????

Hard one....how about "I can fish any day of the week, and when I do, I do it because you love it when I bring home food. Now, my favorite 14 football teams only play on Sunday or the occaisional Monday, and as the MAN OF THE HOUSE I WILL DECIDE WHEN THE CHORES GET DONE!. NOW GET YOUR HINY BACK IN THE KITCHEN AND COOK SOME OF THAT FOOD I BRING HOME!!!!!!!!" When you get your new place, you won't have to worry about answering hard questions like she posed.

The leaves don't care if they're raked up by a man or a woman.

Try this:

Power lawn equipment is capable of generating a severe, life threatening electric spark of 1000's of volts. Unlike marine equipment, it isn't designed to be used safely in the rain. Now, you could use a manual rake, as well as lifting and carrying those leaves manually, but then, because you are a modern wage earning man, you would be at risk of hurting your back, because we're all soft and out of shape, right? If you hurt your back, not only would you be unable to go to work and earn money to keep a roof over her head, you'd be so flat on your back that she'd have to cater to you, even to the point of changing the channel between football games.

You're not stopping work because of the rain, you're stopping because you don't want to risk your ability to protect her and care for her, as well as to support her in the style to which she hopes to become accustomed.

As to why we can fish in the rain, well, it's obvious - we're not at risk there. If only the lawn equipment companies and our own aging bodies would help out, we'd be happy to complete lawn work in the rain.

Does that help?

The rain makes the leaves wet, slippery and heavy. You could slip and fall or hurt your back picking them up. Never rake leaves when it's raining

Honesty is the best policy. Tell her you fish out of a deep seated addiction, and it needs to be fed no matter what the weather. Chores, on the other hand, are not such a necessity, and thus can wait for better weather.

Why make up an excuse? You wanted to watch the game more than rake the leaves.

If you start creating reasons/excuses, in the future, when will she know when it is the truth or not?

well ... hunting or fishing is fun, and raking leaves is work. That can't be too dang hard to understand, even for a girl.

My ex is lazier than I am, so I was usually the one cracking the whip. The "honey do" thing has always been an alien concept to me, and hopefully it will stay that way.

Oh...I'd just tell her there's more leaves up there in them trees that wil be coming down...may as well wait till they're all on the ground.....

I used to get hammered with the neighbor's tree's leaves...after a couple of years of raking and bagging...I got smart...blew them into a pile on top of some barkdust, and mulched them into oblivion with my mower. Took about 5 passes...and they were DUST.

More great ideas, thanks. Unfortunately I had been using the "the leaves are not ALL off the trees yet" excuse for a basic cleaning the last month but they are all off now and had to clean EVERY leaf up. Two piles the size of my full size PU!!! I'll mulch the rest in the field later.

All went well anyhow, now if the Rams had been on it would have been misery!

Thanks all

Well if the leaves are left on the grass, they will kill it. If the grass is dead, you don't have to mow it. Just explain to her that you are making her job of mowing the lawn that much easier...
