Default Spreader Making Information

Spreader Making Diagram

I just wanted to say thanks for everybody on Ifish. I have learned such a great amount of information. I really enjoy this site and appreciate all the helpful advice.

I plunk off Meldrum Bar and in different places in the Columbia River. I am tired of buying spinners and was hoping that somebody had instructions on how to build them. I would really appreciate any information. The ones that I use are made with a very heavy wire diameter. Also do you need a special wire bending tool to make them or can you use pliers? If anybody has pictures of their spreaders or any diagrams, or knows where I could get any that would be great. As always thanks for the help.

A guy at EastPort GI Joes in Portland showed me how to make a spreader. All you need is some heavy gage wire, 2 pair of needle nose pliers, a couple of barrel swivels, and walla! I use a premade spreader for referance. The little springs on the store bought spreaders are not necessary if you use a heavy enough wire. I beleive the gage of the wire was around 13 to 15 gage. You can save alot of money by making your own. Good luck.

Just some pliers and wire with a few swivels works great. Try making you wire to the rig longer to avoid tangels when you cast.
