Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
Meet the radio grinch who stole Christmas.
For five days, WBAB on Long Island urged parents and kids to gather around the radio at 7:20 Monday morning for a VERY BIG announcement.
Thousands did, expecting that the adult-rock FM station at 106.1 on the dial was going to announce a rock concert, as it did last year.
But no. What flabbergasted listeners heard was DJ John Parise, co-host of the morning show, declare, "There is NO...
here is the rest from the New York Post... (not little kid safe)

As a parent, firing is too good for him. I would guess that he has no children, and no sense of responsibility. I hope that sponsors are pulling ads.

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
my two cents.
Although i dont' agree with it, he was successful at getting people onto his dial as well as the radio stations websight.
Question I have are. Are we being good parents by lying to our kids? How do they feel when they finally find out there is no santa? Are we looked at as being deceitful? What lessons do we teach when we tell our kids to be honest and never lie, but then turn around and make up lies about xmas, the easter bunny etc?
I have to agree with the dj regarding xmas being so far removed from it's original intent.
But what was the original intent of xmas? To the best of my k knowledge, that time period was originaly concepted as a pagen type day, and it was changed to xmas to hide over the fact.

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
While they are losers it is good to note that almost no one listens to WBAB Latest Arbitron numbers give them a 0.6 share. (28th out of 40 listed)
explains why they might air some garbage like this.
Hopefully this will take there ratings lower (not that they vcan go much lower)

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
Unbelievable!
My wife and I were just discussing this as our kids get older (7 and 9), it is getting to that time when other kids start saying Santa isn't real.
When my kids have mentioned it in the past I have said something to the effect of "sure some people don't believe in Santa, and some people do, you get to make up your own mind."
Personally I can't even remember when I find out. I don't know anybody who had a healthy family environment that somehow was bitter that Santa wasn't real. Whether you celebrate Christmas for its meaning as the birth of Christ, or as a time to give, Santa still represents some of the best moral values our society has. He is happy, loving, and giving. Besides he flies a cool sled that is pulled by reigndeer.
Any parent who has seen the excitement of the children on the night before Christmas as they put out cookies and milk as a Thank You to Santa, knows they understand that it is about giving.
PS: We just watched "The Santa Clause 2" last night and I enjoyed it as much as the kids.

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
The airwaves are full of second-rate schmucks trying to outdo each other. They'll say anything to get attention without any regard for people's feelings or their own dignity. "Shock jocks" are the current trend (thanks, Howard ) and further evidence that this country is largely populated by easily amused morons.
I'm hoping that someday there'll be a backlash against this idiocy. But for now it sells, so we're stuck with it.

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
When the kids got old enough to state clearly that they knew there was no Santa, I explained how Santa was the spirit of giving with love in your heart and for no personal gain. They got presents from Santa so we big kids could make little kids happy without the little kids knowing who it was really from. From then on they helped pick out "from the heart" presents to give to people from "Santa".

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
My daughter is now 15 but when she was around 8 she asked her dad Rustyl about Santa. He told her the truth but never bothered to tell me she knew. So Christmas Eve I made sure everything was perfect. On Christmas day she opened her gifts and later on in the day she was telling me thanks for those special gifts. Dumb struck I asked what was she talking about. She explained she had asked her dad and he told her the truth. She played along Christmas morning so My feeling would not be hurt. She is an only child so not too big of a deal. We made her promise not to discuss this with her friend so no mad parent phone calls for us.

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
But the holiday celebrated in the middle of winter was the pagan celebration of the winter solstice. The celebration of christmas was moved to the winter by the roman emperor Constantine, I believe, to shall we say, sell christianity to the european pagan hordes.

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
If they are a hard rock station and people expected to tune into the announcement of a ROCK concert, what are the probabilities little jenny and jimmy were tuned into it? most kids by age 5 (school age) if unaware, are soon schooled by fellow classmates so probability that 4 and younger were affected seem little.
I haven't read the article so if this is way off base then disregard this post
Edit..okay I read it..sounds like the stations accomplished its goal for shock value and the other news affiliates, paper and p/c got there boost by pointing there finger at it.

What date was it moved from?

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
I picked up my daughter last night and on our way back from Eugene, we had a discussion. Her thoughts were this (she's 9)
"Little kids should be told there is a santa, but by age 6 or 7, they should be told that he is not real because when they go to school, they will get laughed at because most kids at that age already no he's not real"
can't argue that point.
So,a good transition, as mentioned above is to instill the spirit of the holidays, sharing, caring, giving family etc.
glad to see I wasn't way off base regarding xmas and the pagen holiday. figured I would catch some heat...
happy holidays ifishers!!

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
In our home, there will forever be the spirit of Santa Clause.
I have told my children from the beginning that Santa Clause is the spirit of giving and magic. I have told them that I do my best to make sure Santa Clause lives in all of our lives and that it is our job to assist in helping him bring that magic to our home, and especially to other people's homes who might be less fortunate.
The subject of him being real or not never really surfaced that way.
If it ever did, you'd better believe that there wouldn't be much at our home, under the tree!
So, in hearing this story, I'll bet that this dumbo won't be getting much for Christmas!

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
I had this conversation with my son the other day. He just turned 9 back in Nov.
I told him that Santa was the spirit in his heart. I said that Santa Claus was that felling he has to go out and get members of his family a gift of love. Then he asked me if there was a reall Santa up at the north pole? I said you bet, the north pole in your heart. He seemed confused for a minute, then he looked at me and smiled. He then said thanks Dad, I guess Santa exist if you want him to. He then asked me what kind of cookies we should set out for me? And then smiled again.
I said Santa is happy with what ever he decides, as long as he is a good boy and respects everyone around him.

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
I still put cookies out for Santa. I don't care who, but someone MUST take a bite.
If I lived alone, I'd have my dog do it. I just can't do it myself.
You know, cuz then I might start to wonder if there really was a Santa...

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
feisty, amazingly, I have never met a child that ever blamed any problem on the "Santa lie". In fact, of the myriad of children and grandchildren of ours and our friends, nobody got in trouble and every one of them believed in Santa.

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
Gotta love this every popular chrismas question, "do I tell my kids about santa clause"
I am 19 and every stinking Chrismas there are presents from Santa, now I remember being a little discouraged that Santa wasnt real the year I figured it out, but I was more scared that if my parents found out I didnt believe in santa, the presents from him would stop comming, that was the only trauma it caused me, trying to keep the seceret from my parents that I knew. I think it wasnt for three years after I stopped believing that my parents found out, but the presents still come, so all is well.
I understand both sides, you dont wanna lie to your kids, or you dont think it hurts. Honestly im pretty sure most kids understant why you lie about santa, sorta like lying so you get to suprise someone. sometimes you just have to.

Re: Radio Station declares "There is no *****"
I was just thinking about this very topic the other day as my familey sat in church. Why? do we hide the fact the christmas is about the lords birth? I know some people don't believe in god and Santa fills the void in the holiday but St. nickolas is a real cat. He was a christian fellow. I have started to try and get my family away from the traditional christmas celabration and get back to what it was ment to be. We spend thousands of dollares that, lets face it we shouldn't, on toys that will be sitting under a bed in less than a month and we won't get those credit card bills paid off till next christmas and then it all starts over. my familey for the first time is making one gift for one other family member, not to be worth more than 50 dollars and we are trying to focase on the true meaning of christmas. It isnt easy! But I think thats what the lord would want us to do.
