BONZI IS GONE!!!!
that's right, Bonzi's been traded to memphis
grizzlies. The replacement may have less talent, but I bet he has better character and heart.
Way to go!!!!

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
Man your fast GBS! Just found out and here is the story. He was traded for Wesley Person and a first round draft pick.
Finally addition by subtraction.

True, management gets an attaboy for this one.
Bonzi is far more talented than Wesley Person but my prayers are answered that one cancer has been successfully removed.
We need a mega dose of chemotherapy now.

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
One down, five (at least) to go! Rasheed, Damon, Zach, Qyntel, Ruben - do all Oregonians a favor and ship them all off. There's a ton of talent there, but there's an equal amount of trouble, and probably weed too!

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
Hey Great!!
Ya know, with a change of scenary, Person might actually help more than Bonzi even with "less" talent. The guy can shoot, and that's what they really needed. They have been playing inside/outside, without the outside. This might help. And getting rid of Bonzi is a good start anyway. If they got a draft pick, that could be good too. Portland has been hurting for picks lately anyway.
One down, the rest to go......

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
Can you say "role player". Person has a career 3-point avg of like 40% (although only around 25% this season). A good move all around. Hopefully Memphis won't do too well this season so we get a decent (top 15??) 1st round pick next year.

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
Wesley Person is an aging was been. We're trading a big guard for a big guard, but that's about it. Nowhere near the scoring, rebounding, points per game, steals per game etc. Except for Bonzi being a head case, Memphis got the better player. We got an average aging 3 point shooter who can't play long minutes anymore. Bonzi averaged over 30 minutes per game and Wesley averages about 17.
This is a get rid of Bonzi move plain and simple. Not saying that's bad, he is first in a relatively long list of Blazers that have to go. Rasheeds next!!

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
How fun was Bonzi to watch his first couple of years?! Those were the days. He's still pretty explosive and can dominate one on one better than most small forwards.
Getting Person is sort of disappointing but something needed to be done...

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
Flame away boys, but this is a stupid move by the Blazer organization. No one else will say it, but here's the deal. Wells has been a great player. We had a better three-point shooter on the team than Person, and we waived him, for the same reasons that we'll end up sitting Person. He was old. Tracy Murray was a far better shooter than Person, and we waived him. Secondly, we won't get a good draft pick, because the Grizzlies will not do poorly. Bonzi Wells will play well for them, and he will be a franchise player. Damon, Sheed, many of these guys could go, Bonzi, could've gone, and I'd be ok, but we might as well have waived him, that would have sent more of a message to him and other players. Trading Randolph would be another serious mistake, he did something stupid no doubt, but there's a long list of Blazers who have, you old timer fans, lets not forget even the "good guy" Blazer team of old with Drexler, Porter, Kersey, Williams, found them in trouble. Remember a certain incident? Several players and a sauna full of girls... all minors? Randolph will be an allstar this year, and years to come. We can trade away a whole team of talent for a whole team of role models, but I want to watch hoops, not the WNBA.

Well said, TOC!
However, I think Bonzi's situation with Cheeks had to be dealt with, before the relationship started to affect the whole team. From watching what Cheeks said and observing his body language when responding to Bonzi's disobediency, this was Cheeks' call. Unfortunately, anytime you have a "badboy" player and have to trade him, you seldom get the market value :depressed:

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">It was 2 girls, and if I remember right it was only 2 or 3 players, and at least it was the single (unmarried) ones. A serious lapse in judgement for sure, but even the uptight Mormons in Salt Lake (where it happened) said it wasn't a big deal. And one of the girls told reporters she was looking forward to the Blazers coming back to town! Even that perpetually PC rag, The Oregonian, laughed it off after a couple of days. Of course this was the most popular group of players since '77, and it helped that they were kicking everybody's arse on the court.

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
I suppose that's what bothers me more, that we got a has been for him. I think we could have found something better for him. People talk about trading away the whole team, lets see... we can get Dudley back for Wallace, I wonder if Mario Elie would come back for Stoudamire, Zach, we oughta be able to get at least Olden Polynice for. Point is here, there are two extremes, having a team full of criminals who can play hoops, and a team full of do-gooder has beens with old legs. This is heading towards the latter, and no one wants to watch that. The sad truth is, if you can't handle some bad boys, professional sports aren't for you. I watch the Blazers because I like watching hoops. I don't care if they're the nicest guys in the world who all go to church on wednesdays and twice on sundays, plus curse the thought of alcohol, drugs, and sex, if they can't compete e.g Wesley Person, I'm not watching.

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
I think it is wrong to say that we traded Bonzi for a has-been.
The trade was for a has-been, but also a first-round draft pick and $1 million bucks.
You take the draft pick, which is valuable since Milwaukie is a lottery team, and the money and trade it for another quality player, or you save it and get a good player and use the money to free up some cap space (if that is possible).
I was a Blazer fan in the 80s and early 90s, but after this team's change in attitude I just couldn't justify paying $100-$200 for seats. If they make the playoffs, but have high quality individuals playing for them (like Cylde and Terry Porter) then maybe I will come back.
They used to get my money, and they haven't for the last 8 years...I am happy with the trade. Bonzi was a punk and I think we could lose another three or four more of them. Starting with Damon and Rasheed.
Just my thoughts.
Chacal.

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
Not a good move for the Blazers but Wells would not work for Mo Cheeks. To bad it's so costly to dump the trouble players. No easy fix to rid/replace the jail blazers and who else will take them.

Re: BONZI IS GONE!!!!
Watch. If Person gets minutes his average will go up to 10 ppg. And he'll be back to shooting 45% 2's and 40% 3's. IF he gets to play.
