Default Boat Motor question

I was hoping maybe one of you experts could give me some advice.I have a 1999 16.5 ft Hewescraft. I want to know if a 115 hp Yamaha Jet/Pump motor that weighs aprox. 415 lbs is too heavy for that boat or whether it would work okay. Any advice out there???

Rivergirl,

You first need to check to see what HP/weight rating your boat has. It is usually on a black and yellow sticker plate somewhere near the transom of the boat.

If not then I would call the manufacturer and have your serial number in hand. They'll be able to tell you.

Oh yeah.... I almost forgot. More HP is always better.

At 263lbs, I for one would opt for the 90 Yamaha on that boat. The 90 and a kicker wont weigh as much as the 115.....JMHO

River Girl,

You may want to post the question on the Hewescraft forum  ....at the bottom.

415 lbs. sounds crazy for a 115 hp. motor. Weigh it or have somebody do it. 2 stroke or 4 stroke? Either way that is a lot of i'm not sure. That boat should be able to do 115 jet. But call them to make sure. Happy Fishn'

You should be fine. I had one on a previous River Runner. It sat a little low on anchor or backtrolling, but man did it scoot!! The manufacturers tag said 120 prop or 150 jet. Good Luck.
