Default 7 wt glass fly rod = good plug rod conversion candiate ?

It's a Browning, looks like it's at least a decade old but in 98 % conition, is it worth stripping down the components to build up as a steelhead plug rod ? or should I try to off it here,
got it at a yard sale with sock and tube.
Has a nice slow action to it !.

Will a 7 weight even handle a 12 pound steelhead ?
Max line I would use is 12 lb. mono

Sounds like a fun project.
Go for it and see how it fishes.

No harm in that!

Post results.

I eyeballed it and it's a Silaflex model # 322985
the lower piece has an all metal casting rod type guide as most fly rod do, the upper has 6 of the normal fly guides plus the tip.

get the parts and attempt it or ask Mile Osborne to do it ?

I have a lathe, but the slowest it turns is like 600 rpm, is that too fast to wrap the thread ?

Souds lie a fun project. a 7# would handle a steelhead fine, it would be a fun rod.

Seems like a waste of good work to strip it down ?

IMHO it would make a terrible plug rod. Too slow & not enough backbone

I agree with Raymond, might make a decent light spinner drift rod for low water summer fish, but it wouldn't make a plug rod.
