What kind of a cookie day is it?
I have a craving to make something homey and spicey and nicey...
Lessee, what's in my repertoire?
Ultrabite ultra pukes...
Dead birds in a nest...
No, seriously... Do Snickerdoodles sound good?
Me thinks so.
What is your vote? Come on, it's a cookie day.

Re: What kind of a cookie day is it?
I'll never forget as a child, getting in trouble for stirring food counter clock wise.
My Mother insisted you had to stir clock wise.
Can you believe that?
I got in trouble for it!!!
What the??? She was serious!
I still do it though! I can't stir backwards now, for all of my life!

Peanutbutter cookies, they have to be squished with a fork before you bake them.....................they just don't taste the same if you don't squish them.

I think you oughta stick with cake. Chocolate. Your cookies attract dead birds.

Re: What kind of a cookie day is it?
My kids made chocolate chip cookies a few days ago. I don't think they got them quite right, though..... I guess I better have them try again! Luckily, our cat does not hunt.

Re: What kind of a cookie day is it?
Jennie, my Mom taught me the same thing, everything had to be stirred clockwise or she would throw it out and make me start over. I sure do miss her Christmas cookies. I'd tell you what they were, but I can't even begin to spell it.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I stir counter clockwise. Not to be a rebel or anything. I stir counter clock wise because I am left handed. Sometimes you will hit a tough bit to stir and it seems like you get less jumping out of the bowl when you stir clockwise for a right-hander and counter clockwise for a left-hander.
Have you tried Poppy Seed Pinwheels
Makes 2 dozen
1/2 c white sugar
1/2 c butter
1 3/4 c all-purpose flour
1/2 t vanilla extract
1/4 t salt
1 egg
1/2 c poppy seeds
1/2 c ground walnuts
1/4 c honey
1/4 t ground cinnamon
3/4 t orange zest
4 T butter
Directions
In a large bowl, beat sugar and 1/2 c butter with mixer at high speed until light and fluffy. Add flour, vanilla, salt, and egg; beat on low speed until blended, occasionally scraping bowl.
Shape dough into ball. Wrap and refrigerate 1 hour, until firm enough to handle.
To Make Filling: Stir remaining ingredients and 4 T butter untl mixed. Set aside.
On waxed paper, roll half of dough into 10 by 8 inch rectangle. Spread dough with half of the poppy seed mixture. Starting at narrow side, roll jelly-roll fashion. Wrap and refrigerate 1 hour, until firm. Repeat with remaining dough and filling.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Slice one roll cross-wise into 1/4 inch thick slices. Place 1/2 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly browned. Cool on wire rack and repeat with remaining dough.

Re: What kind of a cookie day is it?
pdxkevin, I'm left handed too, but Mom thought that was a bad thing and made me do everything right handed. Now I'm just confused
