Question Anyone Using Toyota Oil Filters for Yami F150-F250?

I was looking for alternatives to Yamaha branded oil filters and came across some interesting info, specifically the amount of filtration in the various other filters that cross reference to Yamaha's OEM 69J filter.

The Toyota filter has ~60% more filter element area than comparable Fram and NAPA oil filters. (specs below).

So just wondering, has anyone actually tried the Toyota 90915 filter....mostly wondering about its actual fit to the Yamaha's filter base?

OEM Yamaha 69J -13440 - 00, oil filter for the F150-F200-F225 and F250
(thread 20mm x 1.5)

Denso part number – 115010-6000
Toyota part number – 90915-20003 (Toyota 90915-YZZD1)

Filter element surface area:

Purlator Premium Plus L10241 128 sq/inch

Napa Pro Select 21348 104 sq/inch
(NapaGold: #1348)

Fram PH3614 101 sq/inch

Toyota 90915-YZZD1 160 sq/inch

I have not tired it, here is something to consider

A few years ago there were new filters availiable that contained more media to provide more filteration. What was found that the extra media slowed the return back to the system and put extra pressures on the systems since they were designed with "X" restriction from media that was the original part numbers.

The argument made sense to me and I stuck with what the system was designed to use, and always factory stuff.

I am talking automotive but the arguement should transfer to a boat motor.

Jet

One other note on Toyota filters, they do have an anti drain back valve to keep oil in the upper end of the motor. Other brands ay not have it? That is why I use toyota factory filters in my Toyota's. A boat motor may not need this device or possible damage could be a result?

Just tossing it out there

the fit on the 250 is tight, bust the sensor fwd of the filter and you will pay for a couple of cases of REAL yami filters....IF the dimensions and filter area are same I would feel just OK about it.

Sure, but oil filters are pretty simple technology.

I picked up the Toyota 90915 filter last night ($6.49). In the box even its paint color looks like the OEM Yamaha 69J.

I may have time this weekend to try it out. If the fit works, I will cut the OEM filter in half (wish I had a metal cutting band saw) and get another Toyota filter, cut it, then do a side-by-side comparison.

After buying my new Yamaha filters from Clemens yesterday, Ouch !
Oil filter $22.50
Fuel water Sep. $23.00
I can see why this thread is on here.

Here is what I found
Sierra filter number 18-7906 $7.00
If you go to the Wix filter site on cross over using the Yamaha number
69J-1344000 you can get a
WIX 5700
Napa has a cross over from the Sierra number also.

Check out the details at the bottom of the first post. The amount of filtration area greatly varies.

The Yamaha OEM filter which I believe is a re-labeled Denso/Toyota filter has 160 square inches of filtration media.

Compare that to the alternatives:

WIX 104 in/2
Fram 101 in/2
NAPA 104 in/2
Sierra - not listed

Just seem's a little expensive for a oil filter $22.00 from Yamaha, but it is a $12,000 engine.

Beach house, boat, pickup capable of towing boat, fuel, insurance, upkeep, depreciation in it all, moorage, bait, rods reels, time invested in it all.......and you worry about a few extra bucks on a non brand filter?

I am pretty cheap. But I try to keep things in perspective.
