Default Tilt tube- steering cable ?

When the tilt tube is lubed is there a hole in the tube to also lube the steering cable?

I replaced my steering cable and steering column last month and the steering tube keeps getting grease on it but I can not find out where the grease is coming from? I don't want it to lock up again.

No, the best way to lube the cable is to slide it out from the stbd side and grease it

I have done that but it seems like there should be a better way. If I clean it off and move it in and out the tube will get grease on it so that is why I was asking.

Thanks

If you have your old cable cut it open and take a look at the construction. You will see that the metal cable that has the fittings on each end slides through a plastic lined metal housing. I don't think getting lubricant in there would help with preventing the cable from binding as I think the lining deteriorates over time and causes the binding. The end that you are greasing is what gets exposed to water and benefits by being coated with grease and that tilt tube it runs through holds a bunch of grease.

Thanks, I just threw the old one away but I understand. It just seems like there should be a better way to grease the tube other than just putting a little on the exterior and sliding the tube in.

I will keep her greased up.

It is kind of funny my buddy's boat did the same thing this last week, I just replaced mine about a month ago when it froze up.
