Default How do you deal with this one?

How do I deal with this one?

It has to do with my emails I get.

I get an email with no name or subject.

Its from someone dealing with mortgage rates.
(I allready got my 5% rate , thank you)

I go to delete it and it comes right back!

How frustrating...

I try to do a message block but it won't allow me.

How do I get rid of it or him?

is this a personal email sent directly to you or is it some type of spam?

here is what i do to reduce/eliminate email solicitations.

download a program called adaware. they have a free trial version available. what adaware does is it seeks out and removes all the cookies that get placed on your computer when you visit sites. these cookies give your email or ISP out to vendors that use it to send you tons of crap. try it..you'll see a drastic reduction in the junk mail you get.

get ad-aware here

now, if you are receiving this stuff because you registered somewhere with your email addy or this is a individual sending you an email from their personal computer..then you may need to get your ISP involved if they continue to harass you. that is, assuming that you have indicated to this person that you no longer wish to receive email from him/her.

I am always a little nervous writing these guys back, Jennie warned me NOT to. But I believe I was being spammed again.

I couldn't get rid of him.

So I went ahead and wrote to him and now hes gone.

I don't want him mad at me so I was really realllly nice and just told him the truth about my 5% mortgage rate and that seemed to make him happy,,,especially when I signed the letter:

Captain Dennis Will
UNSUBSCRIBE ME NOW

Thank You!
Marie

I would like to know how the heck the email kept coming back to me?

It actully blocked all other incoming emails.

How is this done?

Sounds kinda scary...

I've been getting e-mails that look like they're coming from my own address, but they're not! I think that's scary!

I have a wireless router that has it's own IP address so when I get on the net my computer isn't seen. As a result I get NO spam. It's a beautiful thing!

Make sure your virus definitions are up to date and do a virus scan. You might be surprized......

Marie-- Congratulations! You have just been added to another spam list!

Now you will probably receive even more spam!

They probably said, "Yes! We have a live one! Add her to the list!!!"

I still would NEVER answer a spam mail. Ever!

What you are saying about it popping up is really odd. I would do what Crabbait suggests and run a total virus scan. That is too weird!

Don't you have a spam blocker, or an address blocker so that you can block the senders domain?

Look at the full headers on the e mail. The address shown is probably not the address shown in your simple header.

I rarely get any spam anymore in my real e mail box. It all goes to the spam filter. However, I have to check that folder carefully, as sometimes certain word combinations can trigger ordinary e mail to go into the spam box. Will there ever be an efficient way to deal with spammers?

You know Jennie, I can remember you saying for ever that you shouldn't do the unsubscribe thing at the bottom of spam e-mails. When I first started putering, of course I put my e-mail out there in a few places, and started getting spam e-mails too. I used the unsubscribe link at the bottom of all of them and never had to hit them more than twice, most only once. So I just don't understand how they could keep comming at you after you have unsubscribed, with THEIR OWN link no less, I would think that could be called harrassment.

I think it's pretty amazing that we don't get people, or very few anyway, gleaning e-mail addies from THIS site.

Fisheromen,

What did that wireless router set you back? Sounds like a great idea. Could I use something like that with my current splitter? We have TWO puter's on the same router.

Jennie,

Everything is okay.

But for your question on blockers. Yes I tried to put it on the BLOCKED SENDERS LIST but it would NOT allow it.

Oh well. No harm done. Hes GONE!

SMJ, you probably WILL get spam from this site, if you don't hide your e mail address.

Go to PROFILE, then go to Edit profile, and choose the option to hide your e mail address from anyone, but allow ifishers to send you e mail.

Do a search on how to avoid spam. What I say, and have said in the past will be backed up on just about any reputable literature you will find out there. It's very common and good advice, believe me.

If you reply to an 'unsubscribe' note at the bottom of a spam email, you may not get spam from them anymore, but your email address gets sold to spammer central as a confirmed address. It's just a matter of time......they've got you. It is possible that a legitimate business honors your request and does not sell your address, but for each of them, there are 10,000 that will sell your address. It's about the money.

By the way, a router with a physical firewall has nothing to do with stopping spam. The only way to not get spam is to have a new email address (not hotmail or msn or yahoo or......) and keep it private. No posting news groups with your email listed, no responding to ads or anything other than personal communications with trusted addresses. Even then it's only a matter of time before they find you.
