Scrap our constitution?? Is that coming??
This is scarey and this isn't a liberal source.........
Also, in light of this war ending in our lifetimes, be sure to read the Generals comments in the last paragraph.
Again, one must only look back on history.

Re: Scrap our constitution?? Is that coming??
Just one more reason we should go after those who have them, rather than sit back and wait for one to be detonated.

Re: Scrap our constitution?? Is that coming??
Sounds like the late Roman Empire, in a way. Encroaching foreign powers and insecurity of the population led to tyranny. Then a decline.
We as citizens must never allow this to happen in response to an outside threat or attack, otherwise they have won.
His comments give me chills.

A WMD with massive casualities would also change the way we deal with potential adversaries. Look for pre-emptive attacks against those who have threatened us or our allies, including Israel.

Cigar Aficionado????
Forgive me if I don't get tooooo frightened by a quoted article in Cigar Aficionado magazine.
It's sorta like relying on Omni Magazine for your science news.
This is really, really funny.

Re: Scrap our constitution?? Is that coming??
I gotta disagree, Skein.
One day we will awaken to a picture on TV of a smoking hole where New York (or LA, or Washington, D.C. --- you pick) used to be. Millions of Americans dead resulting from a nuclear attack by terrorists. Or millions dead from a biological or chemical weapon. It will happen. The technology is just too simple to prevent it completely.
And when it happens, the freedoms we have cherished for so many years will evaporate under military law. At least for a while.
Count on it. General Franks is just being honest.
So those of you who whine now about the imagined loss of your liberties via the Patriot Act will have a whole lot more to complain about then.
Every step that this administration takes to aggressively root out terrorism forestalls, but does not forever prevent, that day. Realism is a scary thing.

Re: Scrap our constitution?? Is that coming??
I have heard that there is a "plan of action" for every concievable situation this country may face(even a take over of Canada) This doesnt suprise me that this would be an option that was thought of.

Re: Scrap our constitution?? Is that coming??
But don't ever forget, or minimize, we the people . All my life I've heard the doomsayers predict the end of America, each one having their own inevitable string of events that will bring us down, from nuclear holocaust to weakness within.
It is not just words on parchment that endure, but the will of the people who refuse to abandon the precepts and principles our constitution lays out - for all people.
We're not the only democratic society or republic in the world, but where so many have descended into dictatorships, we have steadfastly refused to do so. They have the model, but not the men.
Tommy Franks notwithstanding, I predict the America we know will be around for a long, long time.

Re: Scrap our constitution?? Is that coming??
Oh come on now...he is military...lived that life. He is a war machine and a pretty good one. He is one our countries best assests, and has been cultivated to defend the US. Let's see "he", a militiary career man, "thinks" uh do you think he is biased in his perscpective as to what a US response would be to large scale attack, the constitution "could be scrapped",,, could?
so what if a war machine thinks what the geo political response of the US could be, of course his opinion is war military focused, he will do as he is told by his superiors, and that is the life he lives. God help us if he is ever president. He needs to spend more time thinking how the military tactics need to change in order to combat the enemy on their own ground before they get to the US in mass.

Re: Scrap our constitution?? Is that coming??
as it is, the constitution is pretty much scrap paper. thanks to all the various executive orders(thank you very much, mr tyrant..er..Lincon..) all the president has to do is declare a state of an emergency and the constitution is pretty much byebye. its just a matter of "when" not "will it" imo

Martial law, maybe. I don't think we'll see the constitution voided.
