Default Fogging up the windows!

Get your minds out of the gutter!

The blower in my truck does a VERY poor job of de-fogging the windshield and windows. It doesn't begin to work until the engine is all the way heated up and it has been blowing for 15 minutes. If I want to keep it clear on rainy days, I have to either drive around with the windows down (freezing my rear bumper off) or crank the heat up so that it is about 90 degrees in the cab. I wonder if there is something that you can wipe onto the interior surface of the windshield that helps with this. Any ideas?

Rainex has an anti-fog product, haven't used it. You might also look for aviation supply sources, I'll bet they have one.

If you have air conditioning, turn it on, then select window or defrost setting, high heat, high fan.

It's a Toyota thing. Get used to it.

If it is a Toyota, make sure that the controls are not set on recirculate. My 99 Tacoma always fogs up on defrost unless it is set on vent. The A/c also comes on when defrost is selected. The A/c dries the air out as Thumper pointed out.

It is a toyota. No A/C. I've tried every vent/circ and temp setting and it doesn't help too much. I'll try some rainex i guess. My current options are to sit in my driveway for 15 minutes, or (what I often do) drive while bent forward looking through a 2 inch clear strip at the bottom of the windshield :depressed:

First, back flush the heater core.
Second, replace thermostat with new 195 degree model.
Third, refill with at least 50% anti-freeze.

If your truck is always damp (fishing does that) buy a Dri-Z-Air container and place on floor.

The flex duct connecting the blower to your defroster vents might be partially disconnected or have a rip in it.
You might also try replacing your thermostat, and make sure you get one that's hot enough.

 DO NOT, drive until you have an unobstructed windshield. It is against the law and if you were to have any accident, you could be charged with careless or reckless driving. It's not worth it! Take the time to get the windshield de-fogged. One of the solutions stated previously is the answer to the problem.

The last car that I owned with that problem had a leaky heater core.

Had an old Mercedes a friend gave me. Heater core worked fine but the blower was caput. No problemo... cheapo fan that plugs into the lighter socket, hang it from the rearview. VIOLA!... circulates the air and presto. Sorry I didn't think of that when we were driving down the Wilson River Hwy with our heads out the windows.
Just kidding Albacore... we had the doors open.

All good suggestions. I go with a water source somewhere, like leaking heater core or exterior trim or such. Definetly run with AC and non-recirc. setting for starters. That has cleared up many fog problems for me.

BTW, lilnorthfork, that is 'bout the funniest tag line I've read in a good long while.

I had the same problem with my 88 Toyota pickup, they said it is hardly ever the heater core, always the thermostat, changed it, problem solved. JMHO! Chinookster
