Default 2010 Kokanee Report Thread

Avoid the rush!

You can be the first one on your block and the first to the dock!

It's never TOO EARLY to start!

Catch a 2010 Kokanee now in 2009!

....and post an official report here...for all to see and read!

MAKE UP YOUR MIND.....

Too early, not too early

I'm of the never too early congregation as fishin does not always have to mean catchin........

Hey Honker1,

Is there really a winter season for Kokes? Can you fill me in a little. I've just seriously started fishing them this summer. Thanks.

The Kokes are fabulous this time of year nice and fat.
They are running around 15-16" right now so next year they will be fantastic.

I've been wanting to get up and troll, just been busy. Caught some nice fish through the summer and fall. Once this wind calms down and we get a few nicer days, I'll give it a try. Thanks for the heads up...

I find it very interesting that in Idaho & Montana kokes can be caught all winter, even thru the ice and, yet, in CA & OR the kokes seem to hibernate in the winter. Year before last the water was so cold in May at Odell that the koke bight was almost non-existent until the temp came up a few degrees. Also am informed that kokes in lower elevation lakes/reservoirs get so silted from heavy winter rain years that the koke don't get to feed much and run smaller that year.
So, should I go to Idaho so I can catch some winter kokes in sub zero temps or head to Baja & fish from a warm beach?

Usually not sub-zero temps... sub-freezing, yes. Regardless, I'll see you by the beach. You bring the cooler!

I'm actually with you, but my grandparents were a full Swede, a full Norwegian and a 1/2 Inuit, so I may be a little out of the norm for temperature tolerances.

I didn't have a problem getting fish last Feb. on LBC. Get a limit of koke's then chase browns and bulls!!!

It's really nice not having the crotch rockets and wake boarders on the water that time of year as well.

I plan on being on LBC this winter as well. Should be even more fun with the two rod stamp kokes and bulls at the same time.

Default Last day at Swift Creek

Had to try Swift one more time before the lcosure Nov 30. So being the Fish-a-holic I am I went Sunday and today. Regardless of what has been posted here, there are Kokanee in Swift. I had the fish looked at by a WDF guy who confirmed they were Kokanee. Anyway, a great two dayus of fishing.

Nice work Megabyte! My buddy keeps bugging me about going up there. I usually hit Merwin and Yale just because they are closer. Just might need to try a trip next year. What rigs work up there?

I troll a worm on a 1/2 oz. sinker. Pretty basic but it catches both the Rainbows and the Kokes. I also troll a Shad Rap that I used in LAke Erie for Walleye, the Rainbows love it if the water is relatively clear like it has been all year. Since the Kokes are biting in Swift, I have to believe a trip to Yale would also produce. I may have to give it a try before the snows hit.
