Question Willamette around Newberg?

Looking for a little advice on bass fishing this weekend around Newberg. I don't do much Bass fishing and when I do it's limited to sitting on the hook with a worm and a weight. Saturday I plan to take my kid and one of his friends out for a few hours on the river. Wondering if anyone could suggest something other than worms the boys and I can cast. I have a decent boat with a gas kicker, plus an electric I could hang for the day, if that makes better sense.

Thanks!

Lipped or lipless crankbaits in a craw color are usually a good choice for just casting and retrieving.

Here are a couple of options for you.

1. You can cast some cranks.(chrome & blue if it is sunny or craw color if overcast)

2. Troll a diving crankbait behind the boat.( I have friend who does this often then he takes the kids out and it works well for bass)

Right now if you are using a crankbait in Newberg with all the coho going by you may also hook into one of them while fishing for the bass.

Good luck.

Thanks Guys, crank it is! I looked at a few pics on the tackle warehouse web site, they kind of look like a steel head plug, I do have a ton of plugs I can tie on. The color advice is appreciated too. I would love to see one of the boys tie into a big bass or any coho!

If I was up that way this time of year I'd be throwing a red craw lipped crankbait in deeper water and a red craw lipless in shallower water. You'll be fishing a GREAT Bass lure with a GOOD chance at a Coho.

Good luck & have FUN!

Man that stuff is expensive. I stopped at B mart on the way home, 6-8 bucks a shot. Is that really what a guy needs to spend to get the right stuff? Or is a trip to Salem in order?
Thanks again for the help guys, hope to be able to give a good report when we are done.

Thats typically what a good crankbait will cost, then theres some that cost 15-20 dollars, but of course none of these are designed to fool the fisherman, the companys would never do that to us....right?

6-8 bucks is about the going rate.

As far as lipless ones, you can get Cordell Spots and Rattlin' Raps for around 3 bucks. Try Sportsmen's (or whatever it's called now).

Thanks again for the tips, we had a great time, caught some very nice small mouth and the kids even went for a swim. Both the big ones came on a very old silver and blue wiggle wart. More boats than I have ever seen this time of year, mostly coho fishing up near the mouth of the Yamhill.

Glad you got the kids out fishing , and catching. Good on you. And I must say good on all the sportsmen that gave advise and helped make some REEL fine memories.
