New Jig idea - Squid (PIC)
Here is another Jig I have been messing around with. Salmon and steelhead eat squid in the ocean soooo...maybe this will work. Plus it is a good excuse to use my squid smelly jelly.

W.D.-
That won't work at all. Matter of fact, it might be dangerous to your luck to keep it around. If you'll just mail it and others like it to me, I can properly dispose of them for you at no cost! (Really though, let us know how youdo!!!)

Now that looks fishy. Let us know how it works once you get a chance to try it out.

That jig looks sweet! However, I've always been told that putting scents on your jigs will ruin them.

Thanks for the compliment on the jig. If the scent ruins it....I will just tie more.

Re: New Jig idea - Squid (PIC)
The bead is the easy part. It has a heavy duty pin through the center. The pin is secured to the shaft of the hook with kevlar thread. I actually like to use a thread by Gudebrod called GX2, can be spun flat so you get a very smooth working surface and is wicked strong. The bead is not going anywhere.

Re: New Jig idea - Squid (PIC)
When you rig do you rig the same as Vedder?
He sets a tubular foam float on the mainline in a way that it wont move below that he has an in-line slinky and then some leader to the jig. He tries to run it as close to the bottom as possible.
I use a cork bobber with a little heavier jig, which I tie. I set the jig on the ground and set the bobber somewhere between my hip and ribs. It keeps the depth consistant.
Yours is more a heavy fly that a jig. Don't you think? If you tied your squid with red it would kill the sockeye on the Russian in AK.

Re: New Jig idea - Squid (PIC)
Scent will ruin your jig if you put it on the feathers. Just put enough scent on the jig head to cover it. The feathers will not be damaged if you do this.

That looks great. Do you mind posting the recipe? Looks like crystal chenille body, but not sure what the tentacles and collar are made of.
Thanks.

Willow drifter where you coming up with all these great ideas. Wish I had an imagination like that. I like the worm and jig setup you showed. I also like this one and it looks just like a squid give it a shot and let us know.

Re: New Jig idea - Squid (PIC)
I have some FANTASTIC, EXCITING and GREAT news!
A limited amount of my squid and Worm jigs will be available through First Cast Jigs. I will have some tied up this weekend and send them to Mark on Monday. They should be available early next week.
If you are interested in buying some please visit www.firstcastjigs.com, email Mark at firstcastjigs@firstcastjigs.com or give him a call at 503-998-3994.
These jigs will be the quality you have come to expect from Mark, I will make sure of that.
I am honored to have this chance. Thank you Mark and thank you to all of the Ifishers that showed interest in these jigs.
