Don't they still cut pigs throats and let them bleed to death while hanging?
I bring this up to point out that "cruelty" can be somewhat subjective.

I'm going to move this to LIG, ok?
It's not really fishing related...

Re: Unnecessary Roughness
Actually Jennie I was expecting you to flag it as an important topic. My bad for not making it about fish only but the straw that broke the camel's back was somebody performing surgery on the eyes of ********* and throwing them back. I think its appropriate that you or some other forum guide deal with comments like that like you did this thread, but severly.
dla, they kill those hogs before they do that, and if they don'tr they should be put out of business. There is no possible good explanation for intentionally maiming an animal, except sadism or perhaps worse, apathy. I see evidence of sadism rampant here which would be expected in a large population like ifish but the apathy that condones it is troublesome.

Wah I hope you've suffered no permanent damage.
That "person" was joking around about what might happen to vermin sqawfish who kill smolt and eat bait. Joke. Get it?

Re: Unnecessary Roughness
******, A lot of stuff on here is said in jest or with sarcasm but its impossible to know without knowing the person personally, without visual cues. Maybe you were joking, maybe not, but there are plenty of people that do that without a second thought, whether or not its you. Why fuel it? Like I'd said it wasn't just you, yours was just the latest.

Unnecessary Roughness
I've noted a trend on this website that is prevelant on the different boards here, and it bugs me.
There are many animals around that will be considered undesirable by one person or another. I personally don't like starlings and house sparrows, I won't get into the reasoning for this. I spend a bit of my time in the Springtime plunking these critters with my CO2 pellet rifle. Some folks don't like seals, sea lions, lampreys, *********, cormorants, bass in trout waters, the list goes on and the specifics don't matter anyway, my point is:
If you're going to kill something, why not show it a little respect? A quick kill and proper disposal. What's with the maiming and inducement of suffering, is there some joy to this? If the answer is yes please don't answer as you'll likely make a fool of yourself. It seems like the same folks repeatedly show disregard across the board. I'm no advocate of PETA by any stretch, but I think I'd feel some degree of satisfaction by watching a mistreated animal getting revenge in the afterlife or by another person or something  .
I'm not quite sure why I started this thread other than to vent a little maybe, certainly not to see more examples of why this is an issue. Thanks for reading this and please consider it.
Kevin

Starlings and bass are nonindigenous vermin

Re: Unnecessary Roughness
******, I get the impression you are poking fun. That looks like a great site with some very sincere and well-meaning people. What gives man? Can't we all just get along with everything and live in peace and harmony according to the stars?
Wade, I don't read a huge number of posts, but I sure haven't come across a bunch of sadists around here. More like just normal people who occasionally talk about shooting sea lions or something but who, when it get's right down to it, don't wreck the environment or deliberately put creatures in unnecessary pain. Don't you think you are overreacting just a bit?

fisheromen,
I might be overreacting, no debate on that. I know I have a valid point though.

Re: Unnecessary Roughness
******, I do not represent anything that website you posted does, but I did get a good chuckle out of it.
I am far from an Animal rights activist, but i did think that you were being a little disrespectful toward wade.
I hate Heron, Sea Lions, Cormorants, and squafish just as much as the next guy. Somedays I'd love to try out my 300 Ultra Mag on them, but just because I feel that way, doesn't mean I act on those feelings. I am not an animal rights activist or a sadist, just a normal individual who does ponder eliminating those pests once in awhile.

You got me there, I guess I am just chicken. Too much of a law abiding citizen I guess.
Good to hear from you WRO, hopefully school is going good for you. (At least I thought you said you were back in school.)

Re: Unnecessary Roughness
Be done in May, then think I might go on to Grad School since I have a couple of professors trying to get me to study under them and I can get a full ride basically. I'll probably apply to WSU and OSU for grad school, but really want to stay at WAZZU. Wouldn't go to UW or U of O.
Take it Easy and Good Luck,
Ryan (Mr. Carp)

Re: Unnecessary Roughness
I'd like to plunk the raccoon that has been living in my yard and starting fights with my dog
But I think the sling shot would just irratate him, and if I did nail him, I don't think the meat would be all that great .
But he's big enough to give up a couple of nice coon skin caps
If only I didn't live in the city, BOOOM. Dead coon.
Cute or not, a pest has got to go.
And I can't even kill spiders.EEEEEKKKKKKK

Call the closest ODF&G office and see if they have a live trap you can borrow.

Re: Unnecessary Roughness
My wife called some society, they wanted $80 to set the trap and $60 more to haul the critter away.
We spotted his den,and forced him to find a new home.
After all, it is a big neighborhood .
If we have another incident, we'll look into trapping it. The first two were within days of each other, and it's been at least 3 days since the last. Only one other time has the dog encountered the coon in the two years since we've bought the house.
