Aurora (Norhern Lights) - Did you see it?
Haven't seen them since I was a kid and don't really remember them.
Last night the result of the third largest CME in recorded history was viewable from the local area.
spaceweather.com
Check out the pics here - Aurora Pics. The one time my frikkin insomnia fails me... Local reports state viewing around 11pm til 1am last night between cloud breaks.

Re: Aurora (Norhern Lights) - Did you see it?
Well, I did see something resembling northern lights. It wasn't as spectacular as those pics though.
My dog woke me up wanting to go out at 0330 this morning. I live in the woods, not near any town or major light source. The northern sky was bright, like the sun was going to rise soon (in the NORTH?)
I saw a dozen or so "cloud like" flashes that were blue. I can best describe it as having the appearance of a search light circling and hitting a small cloud. But there were no clouds and the stars were very visible. I will watch again tonight!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">That description of what you saw kicks butt. I only saw them once when I was very young and don't really remember them.
Gonna go try to get a glimpse of them tonight.

I saw them in the pdx area about 1982.
They were spectacular here in alaska last night;I stayed up wat too late, just watching them. They should be impressive for several more nights due to the sunspot activity.

Very nice. Do you think there will be any tonight?

Re: Aurora (Norhern Lights) - Did you see it?
1993- on a flight back to Portland from Reno. The pilot gets on the intercom and tells us the lights are spectacular. He then turns the plane East, so the passengers on the left side could view them. After a few minutes, he turns the plane to the West so everyone on the right side could see them.
It was VERY cool!

pdxkevin- this am news said there was another one erupting and to expect communictation disruptions today. Didn't specifically say there would be lights again tonight. I'd watch the evening news if I was you (AND I could stay up that late!).

Re: Aurora (Norhern Lights) - Did you see it?
Anyone see them last night? Supposedly the news tells us we could see them last night, and will be able to see them again tonight.
I tried last night about midnight, but it was cloudy in Salem, Oregon.

Re: Aurora (Norhern Lights) - Did you see it?
I tried to see it last night. Having never seen one before, it was hard to say for sure weather it was the light from Portland reflecting off of low clouds or the real deal. It wasn't moving, so I suspect it was just the light pollution from Portland. It may be clear enough tonight to try again.

Re: Aurora (Norhern Lights) - Did you see it?
It was clear up here at 0130. Sky was dark to the north and no sign of the previous nights activity.
I will try again tonight by golly but it sure is COLD out there! Brrrrr.

Re: Aurora (Norhern Lights) - Did you see it?
I tried at midnight last night, but didn't see them. Did see two meteors zoom toward earth at zipping speed.
Anyone heard if they will be out tonight? I've never seen them, and really want to.

Re: Aurora (Norhern Lights) - Did you see it?
Matt Zaffino tonight said that another huge solar flare earlier today will allow possible northern lights to be seen in Oregon tonight and tomorrow night.
Two things I lose sleep over:
1. Fishing
2. Possibility of seeing northern lights.

Re: Aurora (Norhern Lights) - Did you see it?
I also heard this morning that tonight should be a good night, as there will be no cloud cover. I'm going to stay up, but wow it's going to be cold. I've only seen them once up in Alaska. Simply unbelieveable! Why would someone do drugs when you can watch the northern lights??

Re: Aurora (Norhern Lights) - Did you see it?
Stayed up last night, and went out around 11:30 PM between Salem and Silverton. The sky was definately brighter toward the north, even barely glowing, but I'm not sure if that was the northern lights or the Portland lights. I didn't see any curtain effects or colors, other than the north sky barely was ever so slightly "Steelhead Green" if you can understand that. Kind of like the background color where the you see the Instant Graemlins where you make your post, but only barely faint.
Did I see them?
