Default local boat dealership mistake on repair of Yami 250

So my local Yamaha dealership is horrible and I have not ever taken my new boat there until last week. Normally I drive an extra 45 minutes to take to another dealership but I had just a couple of small things that needed to be done. Against my better judgement I took it to the local dealer.....BIG MISTAKE.

My spedometer was not working for my Yamaha 250. I took the boat in and they said that there was some junk in the little hole in the front of the lower unit that gives the speed. They thought it was just some seaweed or a small piece of wood. Simple fix just they said they would just take a small drill bit and work it out by "HAND". Well the tech working on it got impatient and used an acutal electric drill and snapped off the tiny drill bit in the lower unit.

After that happend they said that there is not really a good way to get the drill bit out. To me it doesn't matter if they have to take the whole lower unit off to get it but I feel they should do whatever it takes to get it out. I also feel that it should not be of any charge to me to retrieve the drill bit they broke off. Sounds like the lower unit may need to be replaced. Their easy solution was the the GPS will show the speed.

Honestly I don't want then to do any work because they are so incompetent that I would worry about them messing up something else.

Any suggestions of what to do? I would really like to take it to the dealer I trust and send the bill to the dealership that made the mistake and have them pay but I know that is living in a dream world. Any legal action I can take?

Contact Yamaha. They should get it all arranged for you to take it elsewhere for free.

While I agree that the offending dealer needs to make it right, I can't see where this is anywhere near a Yamaha problem, unless you just wanted to let them know that one of their dealers is doing sloppy work. Yamaha has no responsibility in this case to make it right.

Yamaha has every right. It's their motor. If the people selling it are doing a bad job, then they need to be made aware of it so they can put the customer in the right hands to get the job done. Warranties are not made with dealerships they are made with manufacturers. Dealers only supply the work usually, then charge it back to the manufacturer.

I agree they need to know about a bad dealer, but they have no financial obligation in this case. This is not a warranty item. It is a poor attempt at a repair on a non-warranty issue to begin with. Yamaha didn't do anything wrong here.

My mechanic did the same thing...broke a drill in the hole. Mechanic just dis-connected the hose that connects to that hole and blew air thru it. The broken drill popped out. Good luck.
