Default what to expect?

been working on a project off and on for about 3 years.... took an old fiberglass deep vee hull 18 ft and modified it to a shallow vee while installing a Hamilton 751, total unladen weight about 2300 lbs - idea was roomy high sided boat for primarily shallow draft duck hunting on big water (Columbia River) and also river fishing. Got an OMC (120 hp 2.5) motor running and found a leak on the inside of the exhaust manifold, (previously repaired by welding), engine oil looks OK, but have not done any compression check yet. I have a sweet running Mercruiser 228 hp (Chevy 305) ready to drop in. Question...... what can I expect the results to be with the V8 driving the 751?

Cool Re: what to expect?

What type of result are you talking about ...
Performance , handling , fuel usage or some other aspect ?...

guess I am looking for folks who have a better idea than I do about the small jet pump handleing horsepower more than it was designed for.... will cavitation be excessive, am I liable to shear a impellor shaft, will I need to put a rev limiter on the engine are just a few things that have crossed my mind.

You can expect to dump more and more money, into a boat that will be worth less and less as you go. That applies to all boats, not just yours.

As far as performance goes.......Let me just say that you might want to make the first voyage solo. Have some friends on shore with video gear. You may have the makings of a youtube blockbuster!

Good luck with the project, it sounds like fun.

I don't think the impeller shaft will be a problem , but you will have to limit the rpm's of the motor or you will over run the pumps capacity ...
Maybe a thought would be to get another Hamilton 751 and set up a twin
jet off your V8 ...
