Default Trailer adjustment?

I posted this once before but never really got an answer that seemed to help...at least not help me. Anyway, I have a "King" trailer. The winch seems to be angled a bit to one side. Because of this the strap rubs up against the housing when cranking the boat onto the trailer. It rubs against the side that is not beveled and is tearing the strap. Some have suggested that I simply adjust the angle of the winch. OK, but how does one do that? I cannot seem to find a way to "aim" the winch so that the angled retrieval is gone? Little help?

thanks

TD

I think if you want better advice you'll need to provide more information. It's hard to fully understand what your problem is and how it can be solved from your description. If you post some pictures you'll almost certainly get a better response.

Cool Re: Trailer adjustment?

Take off the strap and get some 1/4" stainless cable ...

That is what I was considering originally, but was told not to (can't remember why). As for the explanation and photos - that would be better. I will see what I can come up with.

For the record - anyone suggest NOT using cable for any reason?

thanks

Don't go with cable after a while the cable will get rough and that's not good for the hands take your winch and rotate it to one side just a little and that should get the strap off the side if your need to make your bolt hole just a little bigger and then put your winch back on then put it to the side further just tighten down the bolts really tight and your should be good. Maybe shim one side of the winch where it bolts to the trailer. Getting the winch and strap to pull in the right direction.

You know we use to use cable all the time before nylon straps became popular ...
Yea they got a little prickly ... But they never broke , they were a little hard on the drum though ...
The suggestion to realign your winch is worth a try , if you think cable is not for you ...

are you able to adjust the mounting postion/angle of the winch? like loosin up the bolts holding the winch in place and tweak the winch over

No, I have tried this and there is no "wiggle" room for doing so. I am going to try to post some pictures of the problem this evening...never posted pics before but will give it a try. I am also looking at making an adjustment in the angle that the boat comes on the trailer (bunks)....
