Best way to get stickers off
What is the best way to get stickers off an outboard motor cowling. Is there something that is made to do this with out harming the paint? I have a new motor and want to get the bright red break in instructions off the top. I could call the the place I purchased it from but am a little mad at them right now.
Thanks for any help

Re: Best way to get stickers off
Use the wife's hair dryer, a razor blade and some patience. Also consider using some of her nail-polish remover as long is it doesn't also remove the paint on the motor cover.

Re: Best way to get stickers off
There is a product specifically designed for removing stickers....it is called Goof Off, made by Lilly Industries Special Business Unit, in Grand Rapids Michigan. It works absolutely great!
Goof Off comes in a small, tin can with a red flip-top, like lighter fluid comes in. They call it "the ultimate remover!" on the can. It's good, and does not stink to high heaven like so many solvent type products.

Re: Best way to get stickers off
We take stickers off of 20,000 dollar Harleys using spray circuit board cleaner ...
Use it to remove the gum after gently peeling off the sticker itself rub the gum
off after soaking it with a microfiber or very soft cloth as not to scratch the finish ...
Air conditioner flush that is alcohol based works well also , use no harsh solvents ...

Re: Best way to get stickers off
I would not use a razor blade most likely you will scratch the surface. Use a heat gun and remove the adhesive with 3M adhesive remover or Goop Off. The 3M stuff is designed specifically for that purpose and works really good it won't harm the finish even on plastic surfaces.

Re: Best way to get stickers off
Some types of goof off are too strong for some plastics and will melt them ...

Re: Best way to get stickers off
Thanks for the ideas but like a lot of times I should have looked closer. The sticker just peeled right off with out any problems. Now if I could just get some time off from work to accually use my boat.
Thanks again

Re: Best way to get stickers off
Goof off 2 is a water based product that works very well.
Spray it on and wait a minute or so and then peel back if it is steel stuburn spray at the edge of the sticking area and it will release.

Re: Best way to get stickers off
Heat it up with a hair dryer and peel it off. The sticky gunk left over you can use goof off or granatize (most auto parts stores carry) to remove.
