$3-4 cigar...
Was just curious... I like to smoke cigars. Have discovered recently that sitting at my work bench in my garage to read and puff a gar is quite pleasurable as it's getting cooler in the evenings so my patio will be used less for this(don't smoke in the house). I'm partial to a Punch or Arturo Fuente... I'm no aficionado, but I don't buy Swishers either. I'd like to find a good staple cigar that will cost about ~75-100 per box of 20-25. Thinkin Punch... and that got me thinkin. What do you cigar smokers keep around as a staple cigar that you buy by the box to enjoy?

Re: $3-4 cigar...
I don't think it would qualify based on price, but I tried an Ashton #20 and can't get over the best Cigar I've smoked!

Re: $3-4 cigar...
Fuentes are my local favorite(meaning I can get them locally). I really like thier claros. My overall favorite is a locally rolled, out of his house, cigar business down in Puerto Vallarta. Both times I've been down there he's been in the same spot in the mall there, sitting in his kiosk hand rolling cigars for you to sample. They are amazing. And both times I've brought a box home with me. I don't know if you are going to be in PV anytime soon, but if you are stop by, they are great!

Re: $3-4 cigar...
Ashton is a good one. On that I always enjoy is a store brand from the Tinderbox called 'La Reserva'. Very smooth and mellow. It is an easy one to enjoy. The nearest Tinderbox store is in WA.
My all time favorite is still in the 3-4 buck range but very hard to find in the PNW. The Jose Llopes is made in Panama. Not a lot of people are getting cigars out of tht country for some reason right now.
Others I prefer (with a little dipping scotch):
[*]Leon Jimenes Robusto[*]Macanudo Maduro Hyde Park[*]Flor de Carbonell Churchill[/list]

Re: $3-4 cigar...
Try a Fuente 8-5-8. The last time I bought a box from Thompsons they were around 100 bucks.

Re: $3-4 cigar...
The Ashton Aged Maduro's #10-60 are about the best you can buy IMHO, but a bit spendy. Box's range from $175-200 if you can find them.
La Gloria Cubana Wavell Maduro is about as good as you can get at a very affordable $67 per box.
Try the Padron's, if willing to spend a bit more, $130 per box, as you can tell I prefer the maduro.
The El Rey Del Mundo Rectangulare Maduro is also a great one. $83 per box of 30.
Just remember if you buy in quantity, take care of them in a humi. They'll dry out and turn crappy quick if not kept well.
Hope it helps.

Re: $3-4 cigar...
I know this isn't a 3-4 dollar smoke, but you will fall in love with the Padron Exclusivo 1964 Anniversary Edition. You can get a box of 25 for around 270 bucks, kind of spendy, but if you are going to damage your body, you might as well spend some money doing it!
For that matter, try any of the Padrons, you will find them very mild and tasty!

Re: $3-4 cigar...
The Fuentes and the Punch are both a great choice. I like just about anything with a maduro wrapper. Several years ago a local cigar shop obtained a supply of pre-revolution Cuban cigars in that price range. I was a bit sceptical about smoking a cigar that was more than 50 years old, but I was quite suprised. A very mellow and flavorful smoke. If you ever see pre-revolution cubans, get 'em! It's been a few years since I've smoked cigars. If only they made a cigar that didn't make me stink like cigar smoke. My wife isn't too fond of it.

Re: $3-4 cigar...
Evidently most cigar smokers here must have bucks to spend. I have to be a little more conservative with my money.
I started doing business with J.R.Cigar in North Carolina.(No tobacco tax which means lower prices)
They carry most of the mentioned brands at a much lower price. They do not carry Padron which are good.
I have been buying their J.R Alternatives which are thier own cigar brand as a knock-off of a major brand. I've been buying the Alternative to Fuentes 8-5-8 in bundles of twenty for about $17.00. I also get Alternative to La Gloria Cubana for about $ 23 per bundle of 20.
My favorite is the Remedios Corona Gorda for $37.95 per box of 20. It's a great cigar at a very good price.
Go on line at jrcigars.com to take a look.

Re: $3-4 cigar...
Stinky H,
Jr's has some great deals. The El Rey Del Mundo's Rectangulare in Maduro is their own blend. Others sell the Rectangulare, but only JR sells the Maduro. Its a heck of a nice smoke.

I just ordered a few of the 5-packs(including the El Rey Del Mundo's you recommend) - great way to try some different smokes without commiting to a box or getting gouged on the single stick prices.

Re: $3-4 cigar...
The Punch and Fuente's that I like are typically around 6-7 a stick - buying online for a qty of 25 brings that price down to 3-4 per stick which works for my budget. I like the larger size cigars ~7 x ~52. The jrcigars site that was listed has some really good prices.

Re: $3-4 cigar...
I'm with Reeldick here. I used to smoke the expensive (for me) $5-6 dollar H. Upmann's and Montecristos, but for the last few years I've been looking for anything full dominican for $1-2 bucks each from JR (right now a Menendez y Garcia). A few have been a little rough, but then again so were the $30 Cuban's I got in BC........

You bring up a good point - I read a story on one of the cigar web pages our there(forgot which) about $5 Dominican or Honduran cigars running up against a $25 Cuban in a best cigar pepsi challenge kinda contest and the $5 cigar won over the Cuban. I sometimes wonder how much the taboo of a Cuban makes people drool over them vs the actual flavor/quality of the smoke? Many times there are Cuban seeds used to grow the Honduran or Dominican tobacco.
I've been tempted to try a box of those cigars that run $30 for a box of 25 ~7x~50 cigars. Would be nice to find a cigar I really enjoyed in that price range. Would be able to enjoy them more often as well. Don't always have time to smoke the whole cigar and I won't feel bad about tossing the last half because I only spent a buck on it vs $5.

Re: $3-4 cigar...
Stinkyh,
Oh so right you are. In my entire Cigar smoking career ( he, he ) I have had one really good Cuban. It's name was Enriques & Yno. A very obscure cigar that was given to me by a Cuban friend of mine. Since then I have rarely enjoyed a Cuban cigar. A good Honduran or Dominican is best in my book too!
One that might interest someone is a cigar called an ACID. For a long time I didn't buy one because of the name, but I tried one and they are pretty flavorful. Not that expensive either, $ 4-5 a smoke I think. Worth a try. I think either you will like these or hate them.

Re: $3-4 cigar...
I couldn't agree more. I've smoked my share of Cubans, many very good, but many just OK. Not many worth the price I paid.
There are plenty of Dominican and Nicaraguan cigars which are great for a fair price. However don't be shy in purchasing a few of the higher priced ones, many are worth it, it depends on taste obviously.
In that realm try Ashton aged Maduro #60 its 7" x 52, great taste, but you need a couple hours or so for it.

Re: $3-4 cigar...
I love cigars and order from rock's cigars, or Famous-Smoke online.
I have fallen in love with Indian Tabacs...try em.. you wont be sorry. I also like CAO, Gloria, Fuente and Padron. Creme De Jamacia for a light smoke.
I did buy some LaFloradita bundle cigars,, great smoke, 25.00 for a bundle of 24....
I am smoking an Indian Tabac as we speak... Its well balanced, nice flavor, and my staple cigar...

Man, I almost forgot. Try this website,
Lil-brown.com. It is a smokeshop that sells good quality cigars at pretty good prices. They are out of Yakima.
