Re: What will they tax next?
DL - don't be so sure about that - remember they wanted to tax coffee in Seattle...I'm convince that even our government will tax whatever they can get away with.

Re: What will they tax next?
You know animals don't digest plant matter right? They use bacteria in their gut to digest it. The by-product is methane gas.
Consider all the feed eaten by all the livestock in the world. That's a lot of gas.
Just don't get it in one room and then light a smoke.

Re: What will they tax next?
Dan,
You have plant mater confused with cellulose.
They can digest plant protein with out the help of their rumen and bacteria.

Re: What will they tax next?
Correct.
But any grazing animal takes in lots of cellulose.

Re: What will they tax next?
I'm pretty sure that animal created methane is the single largest component of green house gasses.

Re: What will they tax next?
How would they determine the tax rate? Do they attach sound measuring devices on each animal or use some kind of pressure gauge?

Re: What will they tax next?
I think the tax assessor stands downwind and sniffs at measured intervals.
Who is the tax assessor? Whoever ****ed the mayor off last...

Re: What will they tax next?
They tax you based on the FPM of your herd (that's farts per minute).
Methane gas is of serious concern when it comes to greenhouse gases. One animal belching and farting ads minimal gas to the atmosphere........but billions of them add up to a significant quantity of gas.
Hey they tax my car and charge me for emissions testing. I wanna see the technician test farmer Jones' cattle for "emissions".

Re: What will they tax next?
Actually my boss is, globally, the largest point source for methane gas.

Re: What will they tax next?
And all along I thought Keta produced all the gas around here.  Just bust'in ya Lee.
Guess they will have to attach fart bags to cows to capture a new power source. Hey, they could send all the cows to Umitilla and have them fart at the fans to generate electricity. Never mind.

"One animal belching and farting ads minimal gas to the atmosphere........but billions of them add up to a significant quantity of gas."
But not nearly as significant as that of the far lower number of politicians.
