The future of LIG......
After a great weekend away from home and my computer, I logged on and got caught up a bit last night.
I read the thread concerning LIG and it's content and the problems we face here.
My thoughts were, rather than cutting off topics that become contentuous, why not cut off the people that make them so?
I know none of the mods or Jen like to do this and I don't blame them. However, in my opinion, there are really only a couple of members that consistantly bring the discussions down into the dirt.
Before I get blasted, I know I have done so in the past and may regress in the future. However, I have and will continue to make a concious effort to do better.
It seems to me that simply following the AUP as consistantly as possible would solve most of the problem.
There is a new thread just started titled "Why Isn't this a Suprise" . It seems to me the only reason it is there is to incite. There is a follow up post by the original poster refering to Dems. as "Dims". What is the value of this other than to call names and incite?
Identify those that consistantly break the rules and if they choose to continue dragging us down, boot them.

Re: The future of LIG......
I second the motion. Straydog,my new tactic is to just not post when the thread is just plain ridiculous. Don't lower yourself to that level.

Re: The future of LIG......
The only way to not fight is to not fight. I am simply not going to debate people and posts where it is clear that the partisanship is more important than the idea. Besides keeping my blood pressure down, there is simply no point in arguing with people whose mind is made up.

I prefer my own: "Even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while." It's the only reason I keep fishing and golfing.

Re: The future of LIG......
Well this discussion comes up every few months especially when hot debate topics go no where fast. The frustration level build and the name calling blossoms. Why are we all surprised?
A vast majority a beliefs, convictions and agendas exist here and when one opinion is form 5000 others are there to desput it. It's amazing we can walk and chew gum at the same time.
Play here if you will, just don't get to close to the fire. Learn to walk away when you have had enough. Hopefully I am not just talking to myself here.
And now back to fishing.

Re: The future of LIG......
Might be kind of harsh to snuff someone out if they get out of controll why not just a "vacation" of like 2 weeks for the person.. And if still the person persists then cut them off completely.

Re: The future of LIG......
We usually disable while we sort it out. If they understand what is happening, and concede to trying to be more amiable, then we let them back at it.
If more complaints arise, or if more questionable statements are made, most often we try to talk, but sometimes we just say, hey...this is too much. Take a week vacation.
It is very rare that we have ever permanently banned anyone. We don't want to lose anyone! We just like to make sure our goals are the same.
And those goals, again, are to try and keep things peaceful. I'm here to unite the fishing community. How bout you?
Jen
