LS,this is just another wacked republican idea on the environment. Here's a few more,Ronald Reagan said, If you've seem one redwood tree you've seem them all, James Watt on the nearly extinic desert red squirrel, seen one, seen um all. So this isn't so surprising, stupid yes, surprising no.

pdxkevin - and you think this is a good idea?

"Sour grapes" makes me think that you see this as a political thing. Do you think that the plan as outlined is well thought out? Something that you think should be pursued as a practical solution? Or are you just supporting it because it came from "your" side of the aisle?

I did have to chuckle at the reference to the powerful zoo and circus lobbies who were endorsing this action. When was the last time you went to a circus? Or the zoo? Last I heard, both were struggling and not likely to make much of a blip on either side's political radar screen.

Do I think this is a good idea? No, at least what I see on the surface.

Do I think stopping this will make much of a difference in many of those countries? No, because in many instances the poachers and "takers" are better armed and organized than the governments.

I do think that many of the most well-managed wildlife areas around the world are where the hunting communities have commited themselves to harvest and sustainability.

My cupple scents.

Not sure what to think of this since it is all from animal rights sources. But I doubt that this will allow people to import endangered animals and then kill them. It is probably more geared to zoos and circus types.

And the zoos around this country have breeding programs for endangered animals.

I can see situations where this could be beneficial, and situations where it could be quite ugly.

Beneficial: California Condor situation, where captive breeding preserved the species.

Ugly: there are more "pet" tigers in the U.S. than there are in the wild.

They do have breeding programs in Zoo's in the USA but..........Are they really wild??? We couldn't release them. The breeding programs are just to supply other zoo's with the animals.

Come on LS

There are terrorists right now planning (and ready to deliver within minutes) weapons of mass destruction on these animals.

When history looks back on us they will thank us for saving these animals from these terrorists.

According to British intelligence these terrorists have been to Africa to purchase WMD to use on these good, god fearing animals. Other reports have seen these terrorists meeting with senior administration officials to negotiate and deal for the construciton of chemical plants. In fact some of these same terrorists received money from the previous Bush administation.

Thanks God the new Bush is ready to step up and stop these evil doers and protect these wild animals by placing them in zoos and parks.

NOT

Time for a Change
