They used to buy it for arrow stock. Are you talking lumber or logs? I'am remodling my kitchen,so I'll take some. It makes great wall paneling.

I had to take down a very nice row of the beautiful trees, due to bug infestation namely the japanesse beetle. The trees I have are about 40 years old but they were planted as a wind break, so they ar kind of small. The stumps are about 2 feet wide and there are about 25 of them. I do have one that is very large about 4 foot around. If anyone knows of a mill that will purchase this stuff please let me know. I of course would donate to ifish.net

very expensive. it is structural cedar you can build with, as opposed to the general cedar that is mostly for siding, fencing etc...

Most of this lumber comes from Canada...Port Orford. But there has been a ban, or a high tax on imports, so getting locally is expensive.

I know this because my deck is made of PO Cedar, and was adding on to it, but couldn't find 2x6 stock very easily.

You might sniff around some wood boat builders, I think that stuff is/was used to build some nice boats. "Woody" here at Ifish is a wood boat nut and might have some more info.

Yep, I'm a wood boat nut, and proud of it.

Port Orford Cedar is a highly prized boat building wood. Highly rot resistant and pretty light and strong. Personally I've never used it. Most of the stuff I've read about it refers to it being used in cedar strip canoes.

I suppose the best thing to do would be to contact a wood boat shop and find out who their supplier is and see if they would buy your logs. There are not a lot of wood boat shops around the Portland area. Ray's River Dories is the only one I can think of, and they use mostly fir. It's really big in the Seattle area though.

I work in the lumber industry and I know of a boat builder in the Portland area that specializes in high end lumber for their boats. As they are not an Ifish sponsor, I will not post their name, but send me an e-mail and I would be happy to reply with their name.
