Default Browns at Wickiup

Tom (rum runner) and I decided to hit Wickiup for browns Saturday before they shut down the boat ramp for more repairs on Monday. We were on the water by about 6:30 and ran side planers with deep diving plugs for most of the day. Tom got the only 2 to the boat. Here was one of them.

He had the only action of the day. I was relegated to netting and taking pictures. He had 1 come off right at the net, the fish somehow pulled the hook and split ring right off the lure as he was making one last run. Water levels are dropping fast. Saw lots of brookies chasing minnows at the end of the arm that borders the highway. Could not ask for better weather, which doesn't usually make for good conditions when chasing browns.

Love the color on that guy, I was thinking of making a trip over there next week. I wonder if I could do a beach launch with an 18' Starcraft?

Those fish sure are gorgeous, I may have to check into the beach launching since the ramps are going to be closed for the rest of the season. We had a great day on the water, sure was nice to be having such great weather this time of the year. I was surprised at the number of campers still out there.

I have never heard of Brook trout in Wickiup but no reason why they should not be. Were there any size to them?

Good colors on that guy. Never fished there yet. Sounds like a tougher gig than East lake... My go fishing/camping at East with friends and try trolling for browns. Thanks for the picture Joe.

A buddy of mine caught a 23 inch brookie out of Wickiup a few years back and I've seen them spawning at the lava wall before.

I caught a 4 lb brookie out of Wickiup last year and have seen quite a few up the D Arm at times. Denny Rickards has one from Wickiup that was pushing 8 lbs!
