Consider this:
a. The number of physicians in the US is 700,000.
b. Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year is 120,000.
c. Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
(US Dept. of Health Human Services)

Then think about this:

a. The number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000.
b. The number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) is
1,500.
c. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is only .0000188.

Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous
than gun owners.

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE
DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors
before this gets out of hand.

As a public health measure I have withheld the statistics on lawyers
for fear that the shock could cause people to seek medical attention.

Wow! Is someone feeding you some bad stats <grin>. All kinds of problems.

Your numbers are off by 108,650 on accidental medical deaths for example.

Doctors due tend to concentrate on the sick and dying.

On your numbers on accidental deaths caused by doctors, assuming a liability of just $2M per accident, that would be $240B paid on just accidental deaths, yet Medical Malpractice Ins. is average of $50K per doctor which is just $28B. I wonder if the medical insurance industry is losing a $200B a year...if so it's not showing up on their accounting statements.

Keep in mind that "Drug and Medicines" accidental deaths are mostly not doctor related.

You also didn't count suicides by handguns and firearms,

You gotta watch those NRA "stats", they can be embarassing.

Firearms accidental deaths 1,134.
Drugs, Medicine 8,431.
Medical Complications 2,919.
Suicide by Handgun 3,519

Actually most psychs say all suicides are accidental, the person expects to be saved and live, idea being to let folks know they are unhappy and force them to help. Makes gun a poor choice.

However, that was only one of the problems with the stats someone slipped Mossberg.

I particularly liked the dollar figures on the doctor caused accidental deaths and malpractice dollars <grin>.

Yeah right Brion, and the Dr.'s lawyers always win,...

I'll give you a stat to research,...

There are 10 times as many guns in the US than backyard pools, but yet 8 times as many kids die accidentally in those pools every year than by gun accidents.

Maybe we should license pool owners??

Take the killings in inner cities that are committed with illegal guns out of your stats Brion and you find huge holes in the pro gun control argument(s).

More laws won't help that.
