you can borrow anything except my ....
What fishing or hunting related items will you lend out to your buddy's, and what is off-limits?
For me it would be my Tackle box(s). I have one for each type of species of fish I target, and they represent alot of investment and time collecting all the stuff I have. I have some lucky lures, some go to's that I would not want anyone else to use.
I lend my boat out to my brother, camping gear, rods whatever, but not my tackle box.
What about you? Which one item is most sacred and wont be lent out, to anyone?

Re: you can borrow anything except my ....
I have two kinds of fishing and camping gear. The first kind is the stuff I use,the second is the kind I lend out. Things that I do not lend out are my drift boat and my sled, period. Oh ya I also give out advise.

I would share about anything in the short-term, but the Jack Russell terrier goes permanently to anyone who offers $1.00. Well, maybe a little more. But not much.

Re: you can borrow anything except my ....
I hate to lend out anything. You always want the item at least 10 times before you do get it back, and then, if you do happen to get it back, it is almost always broken.
The plus side to this would be..... if something breaks, I have no one to blame but myself.

The only time I lend poles and reels is when someone is going fishing WITH me and needs to be set up.
As for borrowing my boat. Fugitabowtit!

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">In descending order....
1. G-Loomis rod with Calcutta reel.
2. Lucky-But* Wife
3. Boatdog (Choco-Lab aka: on-the-bow navigator, salmon inspector)
4. Tackle box w/multi trays for each species
5. BOAT
6. Tag (probably rates MUCH higher)

Re: you can borrow anything except my ....
I'll loan out my lawn mower. That way it's not available for me to use - so If I can't mow the lawn, i might as well go fishing, right dear....dear....the silent treatment begins.
Actually, the only things I won't loan out are my boat and my fly rods.

Re: you can borrow anything except my ....
THAT is so true! I loaned my sander to a friend and she popped by when I was "hand sanding" my bedroom furniture. Complimented me on how great of a job I was doing and then asked if I would help her. As I gritted the sanding dust between my teeth.... "ya, if I ever see my sander again..."
I finally understood my Dad. I would aways borrow his sander and drill and he grumbled everytime. I bought my own, so I didn't have to listen to him complain. Like a stupid, I loaned them both out and now they are gone.. gone.. gone...
Instead of Barbie dolls, they should have bought me tools like they did the boys.

Re: you can borrow anything except my ....
I don't "lend" anything, ever. I've seen friendships end because of lost, broken, or damaged items. So, when I "lend" anything, I look at it as just giving it to that person. If it comes back to me that's just a bonus. So, cheap stuff like fishing gear, etc. I always "lend" out, but my spendy stuff stays with me.

My .270, (Model 700 with that beautiful laminated stock that drives tacks at 150+ yards), my Browning highpower, my tackle vest, and my Supra!
Like others here, if any of these got broken I'm afraid forgiveness would be hard to find. I like my friends and can't think of a single one that would even ask.

Re: you can borrow anything except my ....
I don't lend things out any more. I'm tired of having to go get tools in order to get them back, having them broken, dull, etc.
I am missing two reels and a rod from having lent them out. I lent out my stonefly fly box, and now the guy can't find it. 150 hand tied flies, gone. I have lost literally irreplaceable books by loaning them to someone who wanted to read the classic, and then he can't find it. Later, he denied ever having borrowed it.
I'll give you a fly, a lure, or some nails. If you need a drill or a rod, I'll tell you where to get a good deal on one.
I dislike having to be so cold about this, but loaning tools has just screwed me over the years.

Re: you can borrow anything except my ....
It looks like you all need a better grade of friends. I "loaned" a boat to a friend and he maintained it for almost 10 years. I have also loaned out fishing rods and reels worth $100's of dollars and never have had a problem (several IFISHers have used my ocean gear). One thing I don't do is loan out anything I will need to use soon. I have a Colt 1911 National Match pistol that's a tack driver loaned out now as well as a NEVER BEEN USED 48 oz cannon ball mold. When I need them they WILL be back. When I was in Bremerton some of my old beat up crab pots were borrowed and lost, I now have new crab pots.

Keta, is that "ribbon" or "pink bow" ??
Kind of you to offer. One problem, though, instead of mowing, I'd be picking up sheep poop. I think I'd rather mow

Sheep manure is in pellets (usualy) and look like "Smart Pills" You never have to deal with it, unlike what comes out of a cow. My kids and me even get in "snow ball" fights when we are working in the pasture. Only thing to remember is, DON'T LICK YOUR FINGERS

Re: you can borrow anything except my ....
I'm with Keta. A better class of friends is needed by some.
I have loaned out everything I own at one time or another.
I don't have allot of close friends but the few I have are like familly and there is nothing I wont do for familly.
The code we live by is: If you loose it or break it..........you fix it or replace it.

Re: you can borrow anything except my ....
Silver Hilton-
I hear ya on the tools bit. I feel like half my tools are at my neighbors house right now, and I always have to go and ask for them back. I hate that more than anything...except if someone stole from me.
I have seen friendships deteriorate because of lent items too. not cool when it could have been avoided by one party returning on item on time or taking good care of it.
This same neighbor of mine had a ton of drywall work to do and borrowed my shop vac during the process.
Well, he used it on some liquid then proceeded to clean up all his drywall dust and totaled the 20 dollar filter. Plus the vacuum was pasted with white dust. He didnt clean it up after borrowing it for two weeks, still a bunch of junk in the basin. Then I come to find out he went and bought a brand new one from Lowes the next week, after all the dirty work was done with mine.
I was not happy about that at all, and told him he should give me his new one and keep mine since it was kinda trashed!

Re: you can borrow anything except my ....
Nuttin' worse than needing something, only to realize that it hasn't been returned. Keta, thanks for the sheep poop education. Coulda gone all week without hearing (again) about the "snowball" fights Thanks also for the "permanent loan" of the 6/0 Senator. You have been able to use it since its return, yes? And to think you thought you weren't going to be needin' it.
I'm not often in a position to loan things to people, but I do tend to trust and let folks prove me wrong. I've tried to do otherwise, but I can't seem to get there. When I borrow something, I tend to return it better than when I received it. For example, I borrowed some TUNA! loins from Miss B last night. He'll get them back tomorrow all turned into a tasty, delectable treat! (well, some of them anyway. But what's missing will be replaced with some other treat)
